what would be the best approach for eldar versus orks?
I am now quite easy versus IG (being myself a previous IG player) but I  do not see the light after a few games versus orks... any ideas ?

Thanks
Luc

Mutually supporting assault formations and clipping assaults.

Eldar are wonderful at assaulting and a cheap guardian formation is perfect for supporting fire.  Ideally bring one and lay a BM or two with support weapons or whatever they happen to be carrying in tow.  Use a second formation's activation to 'clip' the Orks, and this is best if you use an Aspect formation without BM's.

Get into extreme assault range of the Orks and go at it.  If you've done your job right, you'll be +2 on the assault modifier for BM's and +2 for the inspiring exarchs.  -2 for being greatly outnumbered that is +2 going into the assault.  If you can clip them properly you end up with minimal casualties on either side...  until the supporting fire.  Before that assault resolution, the supporting fire of guardians at 4+ FF will make some nice big cuts into his numbers and that should help out exceptionally.  A +3, +4, or +5 on your assault modifier is not uncommon and you will watch your opponent's 'Uge Mob flee before you.

Once broken, keep hammering it and letting those extra BM casualties do their dirty work for you.

One more thing, try to assault in a direction that kills boys and not grots. Grots don't count as kills in assaults so you need to hurt the boys.

thanks for the inspiration ! so in fact I mainly try and FF them rather than CC ?

when you say Get into extreme assault range of the Orks
, do you mean to try and lay most of my troupe at limit 15cm, so a minimal number of his can retaliate ? ideally on a side part of his "blob" of troop ?

clipping means ? (in that context ?)

also any tips to prevent the following ork band to come and shoot my aspect down ? fly them as far as I can on WS ?

Also any unit you would recommend doing "good or special job" particularly ? DA ?

also mounted vs airdrop vs footlog ?

Exactly right.

Use your Hit and Run ability to withdraw out of line of sight if possible.  If you're in Wave Serpents, that should be child's play.  Even on foot, definitely use it to move into cover.  Orks double moving shooting into cover need an 8 to hit.  They won't average but about one kill per 25 shots and if they do get into range to shoot you, that means they are in range for you to assault.

Also any unit you would recommend doing "good or special job" particularly ?

Strong FF and Skimmer units.  Eldar have lots of tools against Orks.

Also, if you break a warband, try to hit it with an assault again before it rallies.  It's not easy for a number of reasons but a broken formation that loses an assault is wiped out completely.  That will take out a lot more units than you'll ever do shooting.

thanks again Neal.

would bikers be helpful for that ?

assaulting a demoralised formation means real assault or automatic failure from him ? just -2 on top, right ?

It's not easy for a number of reason

may I ask what you think of ? too far in the back ?
