I bet the noise was incredible as well!
In the summer on two consecutive weekends I had the Red Arrows fly over my house about 20ft higher than the roof, I tell ya it scared the poo out of me! I thought a plane was going to crash into my house!
Cheers
Chris

Well I got out in '90 Chris, and C17s were not completely phased-in by then. ?And the last things I out-loaded were 6 KC-135s Tankers in transport configuration. ? But I've "jumped" 130s and 141s and that's very noisy ! ? However it hit me later, why the G/W crew chose the external outrigger configuration/ sling load concept. ?It's easier and cheaper to make a Lander/BEV that way then trying to create a huge metal or resin model. ?I have 2 of the limited release G/W Drop Ships (still available from G/W US MO for about $70 each !) ?But you'd be hard pressed to fit anything but troops in those. ?The F/W Manta literally fits 4 Tau AFVs. ?And I have a GZG Heavy Drop Ship and it's the size of a 40K Rhino ! ?And those are all very expensive ! ?I have other Drop Ships from GZG and other sources and generally all are pretty costly. ?So I think before G/W tries to make a huge expensive metal model the looks like it could fit 3-6 Rhinos or even Land Raiders, the external load design has some merit. ?At least in their minds ... ?And good job Neal, keeping us informed and voicing our concerns ! ?

The KC-135's are cool as well, but in a tanker configuration, it scares the hell out of me all the fuel on board, if they got hit by a SAM or AAA it would go up very fast!
As for the lander, strangly enough it is growing on me...I need some! Hurry up and realease it!
What do you guys recon it will cost when it is realeased? ?15 to ?20?
Cheers

Hi!
Then again, a transport of this type is not meant to be flyinf in a combat zone but to be protected by escorts, so its vulnerable nature may not be so bad.

It looks kind of skinny when compared to a Gargant or Warlord titan. I don't think above ?15 possibly even ?10 or ?12 Or am I being too optimistic here (I probably am but it is just part of me justifying to my self -and my bankaccount- that I will be able to afford one or two of these things )

Yes Chris, just missed a ride or making a jump from a C-17. ?Oh, yeah I forgot about flying in C-7s and C-123s ... very old school ... Vietnam era stuff but the 130s and 141s were too, as well as the KC-135s ! ?Most aircraft that big are just flying fuel tanks anyway, there's just so much fuel in these birds that a good hit and ... well - game over. ?Which brings me to Primarch's point, when an air assault goes in the LZ is usually "preped" with CAS and FA and even Naval Gunfire if available. ?And along with the Liftships, carrying the troops and vehicles, goes Gunships (Apaches, Cobras [or Thunderhawks !]) to suppress any enemy fires that the CAS, FA, etc. missed. ?And even before all this happens the Scout Birds are leading way out in front of the first lift. ?There's a good Epic scenario for you ... ? ? ? ? ------------------------ ? ? ?Cost of the Lander - $20 USD, if we're lucky ... ?

Hi!
I agree that it may be expensive, 20 dollars or more.
I'm just not sure if such a model has a place in a regular battle....

Let face it- amphibous assaults (from Sea or Orbit) into a defended area are just plain DUMB. Today, we try and avoid it at pretty much all costs. The thing to do is to land where the enemy ISN'T, get sorted out, then stomp him.
We dont do D-Day Assaults anymore...they are just too expensive.
So no this unit shouldnt be used in a Hot LZ...but there are times when you dont get a choice...

Hi!
I'd view this model in more of an objective to be fought over than a functional model. It would make a good scenario to defend the airstrip this model was on re-fueling to get away and the opponents job is to stop it!
Good fun!

Exactly correct Tas, we don't get inserted into massive enemy fortifications, we try to go where he isn't ! ?You were taught that as I was. ?Forced entry is the very last option. ?Going into a Hot LZ is a very bad thing and avoided if at all possible. ?That's why support assets try to insure LZs are Cold. ?But there are some interesting scenarios available including the one Primarch suggests. ?However landing some Drop Ships (Drop Pods and/or Thunderhawks) behind a covered and concealed position in your enemy's rear and demonstrating the classic "vertical envelopment" maneuver is still an exciting concept. ?However it can be a bit risky. ?"Who Dares Win" - SAS motto

Though I am sure Taz and Legion 4 are quite right that landing in a hot LZ is tactically a mistake, doesn't mean it doesn't make a great game!
One of the things I like about Epic is that it allows me to play games which have a cinematic feel to them (as opposed to a realistic feel).
So though I know that a force landing in a hot LZ shouldn't happen, doesn't mean I will never use my Ork landing craft against a fortfied Imperial Guard beach!

Hi!
Agreed Jimbo. I have played in several throughout the years where massive "hot DZ's" were used and they are a blast! Very tactical, very tough and go, VERY entertaining.
Well, I guess one issue is solved...
...regardless how goofy the transport looks like, it CAN have a place on the tabletop if you really want it to.
