If you look here (Bottom Right) there is a picture for the SM lander concept, much more practical, and fully enclosed.

What do you recon they do this one in about 1 years time as the Mk2? ???

Cheers

Chris

There is bound to be a pic in the Epic:A rulebook, and some examples on the Fanatic site.

I wouldnt bet on that, but I am sure that there will be more updates on it nearer release.

The Deadline for miniatures getting in the rulebook is the 20th - they can get a resin master out quickly enough, but that thing will need a damn fast paintjob to get it back to them in time for photographing & inclusion in a page somewhere!

Its okay, though nothing special.

I would prefer to see a lander, which hits the deck - It's cargo doors drop down - and out rumble the tanks.  Rather than this.  I suppose its just my image of how a transporter should work.  Like the planes that carry the modern day tanks.

At least it doesn't need to stop to release the tanks, skim the ground at a low speed and drop 'em. Then whizz off and get out of there.

Depends on the level of tech though, would need anti-grav or some kind of VTOL capactity to do that.

Yeah, I dont really see that being possible.  I cant imagine the rhino's and cargo/passengers being able to take such an impact.  I think the craft will actually be required to land.

Now Elda on the other hand!!!!  Can you imagine an orbital lander sweeping down, and releasing a load of falcons!!! They then sweep off on an attack run.

Shame they use the boring warp gates instead. :L

The "fragile" look came up on the playtest forums also.

When I saw it, I automatically assumed that the lander had an ablative shell that was mostly burned off in re-entry and the remains ejected in low atmostphere.

That way, you could use a nice, effeicient wedge shape for re-entry and by the time you hit the ground, you can dump and go with the rhinos.

The closest thing to fluff supporting that idea is the bit about drop pods having an ablative outer shell.  Outside of that, it just popped in wholesale.

Obviously it looks like it needs a lot of work, but G/W is goofy enough to leave it "as is".        Internal loading is much more logical. ? I've loaded C-130s, C-141s, and C-5As and slung loaded UH1Hs, UH-60s and CH-47s. ?So I guess I have a working knowlegde of Air Transportability. ?The model is "neat", but goofy. ?I'll buy 1 or 2 in any event ... :L

Heh.  I posted a similar comment above, and Jervis indicated he now intends to add it to the background explanation.

I am absurdly pleased by that, but at the same time feel bad for being so pleased.

I've loaded C-130s, C-141s, and C-5As...

Drool...I love those kinda aircraft, and like you say, having the payload inside is usually the best idea. Have you never loaded C-17's? I love those, the power the 4 engines give off is immense, and even better, the RAF now has 4! Yay!

Also, I wonder how the IG lander will vary compared to the SM one?

Cheers

Chris

..Hehe, on the date of my first History GCSE exam we had the whole "fly past" for the Queen's birthday or something flying over the school low-level every 10 minutes or so, practicing -it included a C-17- the noise was incredible!

I bet the noise was incredible as well!

In the summer on two consecutive weekends I had the Red Arrows fly over my house about 20ft higher than the roof, I tell ya it scared the poo out of me! I thought a plane was going to crash into my house!

Cheers

Chris

Hi!

I find it funny that we nitpick some aspects of future models, but still buy them anyway.... :;):

Well I got out in '90 Chris, and C17s were not completely phased-in by then. ?And the last things I out-loaded were 6 KC-135s Tankers in transport configuration. ? But I've "jumped" 130s and 141s and that's very noisy ! ? However it hit me later, why the G/W crew chose the external outrigger configuration/ sling load concept. ?It's easier and cheaper to make a Lander/BEV that way then trying to create a huge metal or resin model. ?I have 2 of the limited release G/W Drop Ships (still available from G/W US MO for about $70 each !) ?But you'd be hard pressed to fit anything but troops in those. ?The F/W Manta literally fits 4 Tau AFVs. ?And I have a GZG Heavy Drop Ship and it's the size of a 40K Rhino ! ?And those are all very expensive ! ?I have other Drop Ships from GZG and other sources and generally all are pretty costly. ?So I think before G/W tries to make a huge expensive metal model the looks like it could fit 3-6 Rhinos or even Land Raiders, the external load design has some merit. ?At least in their minds ... ?And good job Neal, keeping us informed and voicing our concerns ! ?:)

Yeah, well I thought about that when I posted, the fact you could have left before you had chance to fly in one. The KC-135's are cool as well, but in a tanker configuration, it scares the hell out of me all the fuel on board, if they got hit by a SAM or AAA it would go up very fast!

As for the lander, strangly enough it is growing on me...I need some! Hurry up and realease it!

What do you guys recon it will cost when it is realeased? ?15 to ?20?

Cheers

Chris
