I'm in the process of working up a very basic set of campaign rules for Epic with the aim of combining BFG and AI along with an amended version of the Mighty Empires ruleset and wonder if anyone has already got a campaign system worked up that I can either steal wholesale or trawl for ideas?

The general aim of my version, if it comes off, will be to have EA as the real focus but to allow the Orbital and Aerospace campaigns to influence the overall campaign and to have an effect on the EA battles. The main caveat is that I don't like the idea of very unbalanced games so ideally the EA games will remain at very similar points values throughout.

So, anyone got anything nice to share?

The French guys have a system that's based on warmaster ancients campaign system. I did a quick rework for myself and started a campaign but never really got to far with it. Not sure how BFG/AI would work with it but I can did up the doc if you like?

That'd be cool thanks. I'm sure it'll help give me some ideas. It might also be useful to know why it didn't get very far.

People changed jobs, started playing other games. All the normal reasons why campaigns die

That sounds familiar! It's one of the main reasons that I'm aiming to make the system simple and relatively quick. I don't want something that will need massive investments of time from anyone and I'm hoping that the blend of three systems will keep us fresh (i.e there won't be such a high chance of us getting fed up with one game system). We'll see, it might just work...

Thanks, I'll take a look at the system tomorrow.

Anyone else tried something like this?

I have taken part in and run campaigns over many years. Some time ago, I came to the conclusion that you need to make a decision either to fight 'linked' battles or to run a multi-player campaign. In my experience things grind to a halt and fall apart where you try to do both, because you inevitably need to stop the campaign while battles are fought and "life intervenes".

I proposed a simplistic "campaign" mechanism in the third post of this thread which basically allows people to use a very simplistic campaign-like mechanism to provide the backdrop for fighting battles. The principle being to allow people to make the strategic decisions that govern the size and nature of forces in any given sector so generating battles with uneven forces and slightly different objectives.
