The day was set. CAL001 was coming down for a bit of an Epic bash, it was going to be a 4000 point each way game. Pancreas boy had also contacted me about jumping in on the game, so it started off looking like a 3 way battle was about to occur. CAL001 and I had a quick chat about it and decided that it was best to have a two on one game with 8000 points aside.

Pb and I had set up the 7? x 8? board the night before, CAL001 turned up at about nine and after a fair bit of talk and some resetting of the scenery we were ready to deploy and begin. 3 Objectives and a Blitz objective were put down and the Imperium (Imperial Fist and Imperial Guard) was going Xenos hunting with the Ulthwe Eldar coming out onto the board.

Turn 1.

Imperium took the first turn with the IG moving quickly up to grab valuable defensive positions near the Wraith gate and also into some woods which inevitably cause the first casualty of the day through dangerous ground. The IF waited and slowly moved into its defensive position for turn 2.
The Eldar moved with aggressive force and hit the SM hard with a Phoenix bomber force. While the first Eldar casualties came down onto them, an indirect barrage from an Artillery formation.
The Imperial Fist Tac squads moved into and around position of one of the Eldars Objectives. The Whirlwinds moved up and prepared for the next turn.

Turn 2.

The Eldar won this turns initiative and a Falcon formation with 3 Fire Prisms hit and broke the Land Raider formation, then with a Warlock and 2 Revenant Titans, the Eldar proceeded to hit and break the Leman Russ Company in an attempt to try to take the ?Break their spirit? VP.
The Space Marines moved forward and retaliated by breaking a Falcon unit, which however left them in the open for attacks back from the Eldar.
An Eldar unit grabbed the ruins objective in the centre and was then forced to flee when broken by SM missile from a Tac squad. This would later come under attack by the Phoenix Bombers, but I cant remember if much really happened with this attack?
The Eldar then attacked the IG Unit in the middle of the woods with firstly a Dark reaper formation and then with a Vampire full of Warp Spiders, the IG went 2 rounds of combat with the Warp Spiders, but the First strike was just too much and they broke and ran. The Warp Spiders were later hit by a Storm trooper formation in Valkyries who helped add the final touch to making them run.
The Imperial Fist dropped in a Thunderhawk  with a Dev and an Assault squad to reek havoc on the Falcon unit that hurt the LR?s, this brought out the 2nd unit of Phoenix (I think?) and then also brought the Marauders (it all got kinda hazy here cause this was Pancreas boy?s battle and I cant quite remember what was doing what). When the dust settled the Assault Marines had wiped out the Falcons and then moved on to place themselves on an objective.
The IG was left with Baneblades to shoot at the Phantom and Revenant Titans, with even the Hydra coming around the buildings to have a go at them. Some very poor shooting was then seen to be done and we moved onto Rallying.
Up until this point the Imperium was looking in a VERY bad way with the SM?s a bit too far away to really hit anything hard and the IG bunched up around the Wraith gate (which I was to find out was a baaaad thing!), but with the Rallying CAL001 proceeded to roll four 1?s and basically lost the use of 2 Dark Reaper units and a Falcon and a Guardian unit.

Turn 3.

Ath this point Pancreas boy had to leave and so I took control of the Imperial forces, the Termies were Deployed and initiative was rolled with Eldar winning.
The Phantom and Revenants opened fire on the Stormtrooper formation that was in between the 2 Mech IG companies, this took a serious beating and decided to leave to a safer location, then the Wraith gate opened and the hurt really began!!!
The Farseer in the Guardian troupe that was coming out of the Wraith gate called a 2nd unit (that I cant remember) and the Avatar and a unit of shining spears into the Mechanized Infantry holding the ruins, the blood flew and the IG were then gone? its really as simple as that, then the Eldar moved away.
I believed that that was the end of the main conflict in this corner and so one of the Temie units proceeded to do the most amazing attack in the history of Termie combat, it charged a Dark reaper formation, did four hits, got hit four times and failed all four wounds (rerolls included!!! You can argue with rerolls of 1, 1, 2, 1). But the Dark reapers were also broken, so I was sorta happy.
The game basically progressed for me into a ?lets see how much we can kill cause I cant really grab objectives? and I went for spite value :D

By this time we were getting to about 6:20 in the arvo and we decided to end the day. CAL001 called it a draw, but I?d call it a massacre with a 4th turn not really an option due to the fact that I just really didn?t have enough left?














TheWrap up!

At the end of the day the Man of the Match definitely went to CAL001, he not only played far better than I, but brought a whole new way of looking at the game. The day was very full and I was completely exhausted by it, but it was well worth it. I apologize in advance for the pics, a lot of them don?t really show what was happening, but I thought they?d still look pretty cool up here.

Thankyou to both Pancreas boy and CAL001 for all the efforts in coming down for the day. I?m already looking forward to the next one!

It was a great day, I really enjoy Epic in its namesake Epic Battles. I have played heaps of 3000 - 5000 point games but I dont enjoy them as much as throwing down with big numbers. It is well worth a two hour drive to get to Drews and get a big game in. I have to thank him again for hosting the day and to PB for jumping in on the Imperial side.

It was my first hitout with the fantastic looking army painted for my my Mark Logue, mate they looked great and they were great. I have to say that I like Eldar very much as a force. Pulse and lance certainly make for very interesting rolls. I think that my new friend unit wise is Warpspiders, they are a very nasty piece of work, particularly when found arriving via Vampires.

Well enough from me, we have anotherone planned for the near future, so stay tuned as the tables are turned and I return to being one of the Sons of the Imperium, purging aliens from the galaxy.

Epic- A version of the game with even smaller models that is often dominated by titans which are vehicles the size of a large building and have the ability to pwn...everything. There is also infantry, whose only function in Epic is to provide valuable traction to Titans walking across snowy paths.
