I will try to describe a situation that can happen in a battlefield..

The Orc player has Nobs in a group at normal orcs.

They are lined up like pearls on a string, one after the other...

Nob= N
Orc= O

They stand like this with 1 cm apart like this...

N - O - N - O - N - O

Now the squat player is shooting his Oneshot landtrainweapon  - the radbomb with a 12cm radius against these guys...

Can he land it in the middle or is he forced to "only" hit the Orc on the right wing of the group?

Thanks in advance

/Pete

You can place a barrage template where ever you choose, you don't have specificially avoid certain models.

With indirect fire restrictions taken into account of course.

Actually, the rules specifically state that a template weapon cannot cover a HQ unit unless it is either the closest valid target of that pinning class, or more than 10cm from any unit of the same pinning class.  So, assuming the Ork on the right is even slightly closer, then only the guy on the right I'm afraid.

That is what I was afraid of. It means that HQ:s can actually shield other units...

Example of they stand something like 1 cm apart...

Boy - Nob - Wierdboy battletower - Nob - Boy

Would mean that you cannot target the wierdboy battletower with barrage weapons since you would then target a nob.

The rules say:

It may be placed in any way to maximize the number of troops targeted. It may not cover an HQ unit unless the HQ unit is a valid target.

An idea around this could be that barrage against a HQ allways scatter? Ok, maybe a bad idea... I dont have any other at the moment though.

Hi!

If they are set up in a string like this, levelly (meaning equally distanced) you can put the barrage anywhere you want. HQ protection with units of the same pinning class is only effective if they are "shielded" by placing "grunts" in the front and nobs in the back.

Given the example you gave (which is a POOR way to place nobz) you can place the template anywhere.

In fact, given this example, I'm adding the caveat that barrages targeting groups with HQ's mixed in should be centered the detachment in anyway favorable to the firer as long as its placed in a way that the closest models to the firing units are under the template.

Thus arrangements that you mention or anything similar would be meaningless.

The best way (and the intention of the rule) if you the player to screen his HQ's with conventional troops. If you mix them your asking to be barraged and deserve it.

I could not agree more to what you say...
