The design requirements are thus.

The formation should cost 325 points or less (maybe 350 if there is no other choice).

The knights should be CC orientated, as nothing else in the list is.

Speeds should be 25cm+ or 20cm infiltrate, unless you can design something which is slower and still get into CC!.

The formation should be as large as possible to help with outnumbering and similar.

One suggestion from Illusia is


Knight Paladin.
Type: AV. Move: 25cm. Sv: 4+. CC: 4+. FF: 4+.
Weapons/range/firepower/notes
Knight Cannon/45cm/4+ AP 4+ AT.
Autocannon/45cm/5+ AP 6+ AT.
Knight Sword/Melee/Assault/+1 EA, MW.
Knight Lance/Melee/Assault/+1 EA, First Strike.
Notes: Walker, Reinforced Armor, Knight Shield.

Knight Shield: Knights are shielded by less powerful versions of the mighty Void Shields around titans. These give them a 5+ save, taken exactly as an invulnerable save is. This save is not allowed against melee attacks or when suffering from crossfire.

Cost: 5 for 325 points.


One thing about losing WE DC1 is that they can no longer do two tactics I used to use. 'Barging' allowing each to engage two enemies, a boost over regular assault troops. The other was when I faced, say, Shadowswords with a damaged titan these chaps would form a line in front and thanks to being WE would block LoS to it.

The shield is the most contentious part because if this is published the rules would be official and other knights would be stuck with it, unless they thought up a different name for theirs!

I've always liked something giving an invulnerable save of 5+ (maybe more) unless the knight is under crossfire, in which case it is neated. Also can't be used to save against close combat hits as it discharges in the knight 'lance' attack.

If you wanted more detail you could say a successful save vs TK destroyed it, but this is a bit fiddly.

Going with Il's above I would to get another knight in drop FF to 5+, drop reinforced armour (it gets its shield instead) and make the extra knight a baron with leader and inspiring. If that was to strong drop the autocannon as well. I just think 6 strong (with leader and inspiring) is a decent CC sized formation! Whether or not be WE would be left for now.

Remember this is for a 'generic' knight. I don't wish to anger any knight fanatics out there or steal the thunder of the 4 or 5 types of knights out there. Also I don't think there is a role for a heavy/support knight. After all we have titans for that.

i think we should do away with the knight sheild treat it as a AV with reinforced armour
knight palladin
type= av
speed= 25cm
armour= 4+
cc= 3+
ff= 5+
weapons= canon 45cm range ap5+/at5+
                  chainfist assault weapon extra attacks +2
notes= reinforced armour, walker
pts cost= no idea

My initial feeling is that the +2 CC attacks makes a formation of 5 worth overthe 400pt mark, they could be potentially deadly. I vote we test with just 1 EA CC.

Lets try your stats (changed to only 1 EA) EC with 5 at 350pts.

0-1 x Kombat ?Ammer 30cm AP5+/AT6+ OR base contact Assault wpn, MW, +1A

When we compare to

Knight Paladin.

*Basic statline is equal(except move), walker & RA too.
*Knight cannon equals 2 big guns on advance. Sustained is another thing, but orcs fail 1/3 of their sustain orders so it equals it.
*Autocannon and knight sword can be counted as Kombat ?Ammer, except that AC has better range.

Stompa costs 75pts. Knight gets extra move, lance, shield, better SR and Initiative for a mere 65pts and thats not even over stompas base cost. Another thing is with all those toys fitting in knight. I have never seen knight holding two guns, two cc weapons and shield at same time. They usually have two arms, not five.

For 65/75pts you might gets something like this...

Knight #1
Type: AV. Move: 25cm. Sv: 4+. CC: 4+. FF: 4+.
Weapons/range/firepower/notes
Knight Lance(Assault)/+1 EA, First Strike OR 45cm/5+ AP 4+ AT

Notes: Walker, Reinforced Armor.

These two arent that generic but with some AND/OR/multimambo we can make one. We just need to turn shield to one of the weapons so that we can swap it for something.
