In responding to E&C on the SG boards about ork flakwagons, I came up with an idea that could address the preponderance of flak guns on Ork wagonz.  In mulling it over during lunch, I decided I like it even though I have some reservations.  I'd like to see what you guys think about it over here.

Remove Flakwagons as a choice in the core Blitz Brigade.  They would stay available as an Extra choice.

This would do 2 things:

1)  There would be no big/uge discount for great big piles of flakwagons.  You could still have big formations of them.  They would just cost more, based on the Extra cost.

2) It would limit the optimized Zzap/Gun/Flak ratio.  Because the number of Zzaps is based on the size of the core formation, the maximum ratio fo Zzaps to Gunwagons would be 1:3.

On the downside, it might put even more pressure on Orks to take Fightabommas, which are already a solid choice.  I certainly don't want to make FBs so mandatory that it becomes a poor choice to take Gargants.

Aside from that single drawback, it seems like a simple, elegant solution.  No mucking about with additional odd point values.  No 0-X restrictions.  Just a relatively minor adjustment to force org with "ripple" effects that handle the issue.

My regular opponent uses eighter big or 'uge Blitz with the allowed amount of oddboyz and always two Flakwagons per formation. The rest of gunwagons is uses for supression and additional firepower as hena stated. More Flakwagons forced him to remove them as casualities and forced him to soften up his curtain of air protection or his firepower on ground targets (which is just more important). So more than two Flakwagons seemed to be fairly useless anyway (at least in our gaming group)

That's interesting that you guys see limited Flakwagons.  What I've seen a lot of and what most people seem to think is optimal (and I tend to agree) is a 1:1:2 ratio of Zzap:Gun:Flak.

The majority of the firepower for the formation comes from the Zzap gun.  Flakwagons go out front to take the hits.  Gunwagons go in the back to soak suppression.  The formation is quite fast and likely to move, so you can easily manipulate range and arrangement to optimize firepower.  You only need a few Gunwagons to open up longer ranged options.
