So instead of playing massive battles in the 41st millennium in 6mm you can to do so with ridiculously overpriced 28mm+ miniatures? ?

I have this mental image of a tiny table entirely filled with 28mm baneblades, leman russ, the ork stompa, and Necron monoliths. 3 twelve-year-olds are standing around making "ka-pow" and "booom" sound effects.

If I had stupid amounts of money, I think I would use the new release of Apocalypse models as an excuse to play Epic at 28mm.  Change all the ranges from cm to inches and throw terrain down on the basement floor...

And why not?

Just blue-tac your 40K models to big bits of card... I think it could work... It'd be fun! I think I can probably put together a 3000-point Epic Inquisition force with 28mm models... Then all I'd need is someone to play against...

Seriously, I have mixed feelings about Apocalypse.  Part of me is laughing at all these 40k players getting excited about being able to play games with *gasp!* bigger armies! Warmachines!  :O

There is a difference.

Put Reaver Battle Titan on the table in Epic. Opponent's reaction =  :glare:

I had it described to me today by someone that has had a go.

You remember when you were younger and you and your mates thought it would be a laugh to stick all the models you owned on the table and play a game for a laugh. They wanted to get that feel. It's fast, it's furious, it's very silly.

Epic on the other hand is a very different game.

Yeah. I remember my first ever games with miniatures, playing Space Marine. My opponent neglected to mention things like points values. I did think it somewhat unfair at the time that he got to use so much more Eldar than I had Imperial forces...

Anyhow, the rumours I've heard for 40k scale biggies:
Brass Scorpion
Plague "Tank" (sounds like a Contagion Tower, possibly)
Reaver Battle Titan
Eldar super-heavy skimmer (forget which one now)

Heh. Well, my Armourcast Reaver will eat up quite a few points. But I have boxes of unpainted miniatures from my days as a staffer...

Well, let's see.

Inquisitor Lord 200 + 4 Warriors (using my Stormtroopers as Warrior henchmen here) 140 + 2 Support Staff 30 + Death cultists 50 + Land Raider 100 + 3 Rhinos 30
= 550 points

Reaver Titan
= 650 points

2 Stormtrooper detachments (alright, I'll have to be using plastic cadians here)
= 400

Grey Knight Order 275 + 2 Terminators 200 + Grand Master 75 + Dreadnought 75
= 625

Assassin
=125

Battleship (okay, I don't have a 40K-scale battleship. I'll just have to use my BFG-scale one!)
= 325

What's that? 2675?

And that's assuming I obey the restrictions of the army list. If I add in my SoB and Deathwatch, I think I can push that into 3,000 even without using the battleship. I also have a Chaos Warhound which if used as a loyalist adds in a few more points.

Now, actually putting together and painting all of this stuff would be a requirement, and something that's probably never going to actually happen! Edit: spot on, Ratty! ?:;): Now, can YOU make an Epic army from painted 40K modes? If anyone can...

Incidentally, Ratty, is there a small mail order of mine still knocking around Cambridge with a couple of bits that never made it to the store before I left for the US? A BFG battleship for example? A long shot, I realise, but my wife might be in Cambridge in the near future if it still exists...

Interesting:

Super-heavy rules
They will supposedly work almost exactly the same way as in the Forge World books, but:
-They ?tend to explode in a more spectacular fashion?
-Super heavies (and maybe all vehicles) will only have 1 damage chart. Rolls will be -2 for galncing hits and +1 for Strength "D" weapons. Penetrating hits have no modifier. Hits that take you below 1 have no effect. Ie glancing hits on a 1 or a 2 do no damage at all
-Structure Points may get a boost to make them "almost impervious to non-titan killer weapons"
Super Heavies with rules included
-Baneblade: Dosadi tells us it is in, and costs 500 points. It is around 600 pts with the extra lascannon and TL heavy bolter sponsons, or you can leave them off for side AV14.
-Chaos Brass Scorpion: rumoured to have 12" assault and a 10 shot weapon in its tail (also rumoured to use the Big Flamer Template rather than 10 shots)
- Nurgle Plague Reaper: Apparently a corrupted Baneblade with a somewhat phallic shaped cannon that discharges pus/poison
-Ork Skullburna: Can hold 30 infantry and is apparently a fast vehicle
-Ork Squiggoth: supposedly more powerful rules than FW

Dark Eldar
Ravager Titan Killer: 3 ravagers which and have access to a "shadow beam/wave/summat" weapon that if it hits negates void shields and holofields for subsequent weapon fire.

Looks like there will be some interesting ideas here to play with to introduce into Epic.

Some of the prices (such as the tape measures) are for boxes of items to be broken up at the retail location.

As an active 40K player with a Armorcast Warhound Titan in the process of being converted, I'm quite enthusiastic about Apocalypse.  Floorhammer 40,000, here I come!

Well, I can't say I'm a big fan of 40k but a plastic 28mm Baneblade is something I've been hoping for ages to appear. So I'll definitely buy one.

It assaults like a beast so... 15cm speed, Infiltrate?

I would also give the Scorpion cannon 3x shots, as it has slightly more than 3x the shots of a Heavy Bolter, whilst also being much more deadly to infantry on a shot-by shot bases( S6 AP3 versus S5 AP4).

So, uh, 3x shots over BL's stats.

This is one of the first of the Apocalypse units that looks like it actually should be ported to Epic.
