Was under the impression i had posted this, now I find it half done and in the mists of my memory!

War! (hounds) - Messing around in the CC

So a short report. Forced by circumstances beyond my control (my wife's travel plans) I only got to attend 1 of the 2 days. Further I had just spent the previous two nights awake writing a 30 page report on two refugee camps in Bangladesh that I'd been running (well, overseeing one part of their operation if I must be honest).

My problems began when I realized I had picked up the wrong boxes in London and instead of my all powerful siege army (which was going to be played at the revised points cost to see how they did) I had some siegers, no aircraft and no fortifications (and they are so pretty). I did have my Salamander part army though and some Titans.

Only here for a day? Well I know how about a demo of what happens at 3000 points when one takes 4 warhounds? The rest of the army was almost incidental but consisted of
2 Assault, 1 Chaplain
2 Dev
2 Thunderhawks (1 carrying the assault, 1 the dev)
Terminators
Whirlwinds and hunter (BTS)

Note I would have loved a few more leaders, different troop selection etc, but was hampered by the models at hand. I especially missed my Thunderbolts, these were the first games ever as Imperials (apart from silly playtest lists) that I was without :(

I should note I suffer from a chronic lack of patience, somewhat ironic considering I like to play with fortifications.

I can only rationalise it as being able to cope when I have 2 dozen artillery pieces to amuse me. This combined with sleep deprivation led to some curious tactical choices.

Game 1 Space Marines
See the SG forum for his report. His army was similar to mine, just with armour instead of warhounds. The game swung back and forth. Poor air assaults and shifting bad luck had consequences for us both. At the end of the game I had a 3 warhounds (I think), the whirlwinds and a thunderhawk remaining, all others dead. Turn one was bad for the enemy, turn two bad for me (how can 4 terminators and 8 devs fail to dent a terminator formation?).

But the warhounds saved me. Now normally I talk about flanking attacks. But my stewed head and lack of sense means I just rushed the middle, killing all before me with one as back stop which merrily slaughtered Thunderhawks and assault marines. The void shields, the mobility the turn one double/alpha strike worked wonders. I could be anywhere and kill the enemy. Now this wasn't a heavy armour force - but there my terminators, assault marines etc would have had a decent target. The enemy simply couldn't deal with these rampaging war engines.

Game 2
Dirty Eldar. Have entirely forgoten almost the game, appart from losing everyone bar the whirlwinds and three warhounds, was I think a narrow loss. Again the warhounds proving great in any role assigned.

Game 3
Matt Otter, more dirty Eldar
Yet again the Eldar seemed to be hanging back. Well I couldn't wait all day and after my cautious thunderhawk got knocked down whilst conducting an extreme range bombing run everyone charged and died - bar the Warhounds! Note since I fully expected to be dead (even with Matts inability to activate his eldar, being a dying race they quite liked the baseline). As it was clear I was stuffed I thought I would help the development of the WP rules and demonstrate the broken charge/fearless tactic. It is now being banned :) In the end I pulled out a draw, survivors 3 warhounds, the whirlwinds and a couple of infantry stands. Despite attacking an elder army head on the warhounds were laughing and doing enough object contesting after some long runs into postion to mean matt won on points rather than the higher value he richly deserved. I must confese I felt a bit guilty, especially as the broken charges were somewhat off, but feel fine now Matt won overall!

Everyone who disscussed it cursed the 4 individual warhound 3000 point list.
