Dom used to have 4-6 invulnerable save in Epic40k!!

I think it needs at least an invulnerable save in EA. It is one of the most powerful psykers around and is supposed to be surrounded by a warp field.

Yesh and with psychic power it became 2+, I remember.

But that still doesn't mean that I want it back. For play reasons I'm avoiding giving bigger titans Inv Save. If playtest proves that it is too weak, then I'll take this under advisement.

I think you must have been thinking of Space Marine or something (agreed it was horrendous in that).

Nothing in Epic40k increased saves like that to my knowledge. The best psychic power was a one use fate card relased in a Firepower magazine  expansion, that you played on a war machine and it let you regenerate lost damage points (roll D6 for each lost DP and on 4-6 you got it back).

In epic40k I thought the dom was pretty balanced for the supreme commander (and 4-6 saves were common - but not on warmachines).

My main point is that the dom is the SC and needs significant protection. I don't actually think the invulnerable save is necessarily good enough.

Still I can't really comment too strongly until I play more with the most recent lists  :;):

Hena - got two 2K battles in at the weekend and used your proposed 6DC Dominatrix in the second battle (with two 2DC Trygons @ 75 points). I lost on countback (tiebreak) and the Dominatrix survived the battle (just!).

I've got notes from the battle so will post a batrep soon but both Orkybob (who was commanding the Tau) and myself thought the unit was pretty balanced (gaming wise) - she was a tough nut to crack and I don't think needs an invulnerable save. She took down one Tau fighter and together with exocrines blasted apart a hammerhead formation on sustained fire.

She is without question a big points sink but I feel that  having her supreme commander re-roll and that 2D3 spawn value balances this out. With an army that relies on assaults, even one failed activation can swing a battle so having a re-roll is massive!

That said it did feel a bit odd not to have a table swarming with gaunts but by turn 3 she was swinging the battle my way and I was having great fun!

Batrep to follow.......

Is anyone else concerned about having a SC who will probably die instantly to a couple of deathstrikes? What do people suggest in the way of protection?

I'm kinda wary, but then, as long as you protect the Dominatrix with a pair of Trygons or the suchlike it will last through any hasty Deathstrike salvo.

Frankly I'm more concerned about the Dominatrix's high cost than I am with her stats (Her stats now feel WYSIWYG to me, and that's my most important consideration).

Ok just checking I had that right - cheers.

By the way I'm a little concerned that my trygons don't really look that much bigger than any of my other nid 'tanks'.  Thoughts?

Yep the 'meat shield' is the way to go and at 75 points a pop the trygons do the job well -

I was initially concerned that the spawn cost was too high (6 points for a 2 DC brood) but with the Dominatrix able to spawn 2D3 and having +1D3 for using a spore, you get one back each turn on average - which I feel is about right.

Aye, well a Trygon in 40k is only about 50% larger than a Carnifex, so sizewise the old model is fine (Maybe even a little large).

I'd tend to think of the difference between a Trygon and an Exocrine (for example) as hard armour versus soft skin, rather than any toughness value derived simply from its size.

Looking forwards to seeing a unified and compiled version of the list.

Ok I can live with that rationale  :D

I second that comment about a new list - I've been sorting out my nids and getting a bit confused over exactly what rules I should be using

Eg I thought trygons were 100 points?  ???

Since they're going to DC-2 (and also have a worse armour save) in this proposed list, I think we agreed that they should come down to 75 pts.

Hmm...  is there precedent for having DC 2 war engines?
