Since the vote on Titan costs came out 79% in favour, 18.5% against, here's the second round of the Titan Costs Debate Vote.

Salient facts:

'patterns' is easier to balance, but we'd have only have a few titan configurations.

'modular costs' is harder to balance, but would allow many more Titan configurations.

I voted for the "Patterns" option.

While we, as god's-eye-view gamers like to mix-and-match weapons as we see fit, to get our "perfect' combinations, I don't believe the Imperium, and the Titan Legions in particular, are so free-form. ?The Imperials are creatures of habit and ritual and they are very stuck in their ways, with little sense of innovation. ?Therefore I feel that, for the TOURNAMENT LIST, there should be about 4 "Patterns" of each of the three Titan chassis, with appropriate point values to their load-outs.

Something like "Tactical", the current "normal" stats, Assault (CC and FF, with a bit of shooting), Support (hardcore long-range attacks), and Specialist (something unique to each type, like Inferno Cannon Warhounds and such) as the other types. ?Now, all the other non-weapon upgrades would be available and maybe, just maybe, include the option to swap out one weapon for another one.

I believe all the weapons should still be statted up to their true values and that a mix of them should be used when making the patterns.

I voted modular, as that's how it used to be in other versions of Epic... I see no reason to introduce a new (and in my view inferior) system at this juncture.

For non-AMTL patterns is a way to go. No 4 perhaps, but N patterns.

How many is N? 2? 10?

Pattern too.
-Easier to balance is the main thing for me.
-Even with patterns, I wouldn't like titans to cange the balance of existing lists ( SM, IG ). These lists have weaknesses that should not be overcome by these new titans. That's something I really liked in EA : fielding a reaver or a warlord titan is fun, but far, really far from being a must have.

I went for patterns- limits the powergameyness of the list for tourney play.  Powergameyness. Now there's a good word.  There should be more compound words in english  :p

You mean like German?  :p

I agree that  patterns are easier to balance for tournaments. However, I still want modular costs for non-tournament games, which is what I mostly play.

For AMTL not patterns but current system.

The same as Hena. AMTL full choice, others must have patterns. I would say a maximum of 5 patterns.

I voted patterns also, after much debate..

I'd like to see a few more paterns for the non AMTL armies. AMTL, i think, really should have a greater option for choice. After all that to me is what sets their list/titans appart.

I suppose you need to clarify if you are asking the above question in regards to all users of titans or only AMTL, as that may change a few peoples minds. I assumed you were asking in regards to all.

I think that all titan-class WEs in all armies should support the variable cost weapons on a build to order basis. When you think about it at the most basic level, this approach to designing a titan is really no different than designing an army from a given army list. The pros and cons are fundamentally the same.

Even if the end decision is to use weapon patterns, a cost per weapon titan construction system is not a wasted effort. It can be provided to players for non-tournament games, and it can be the basis from which the tournament-approved patterns themselves are designed and balanced.

Totally agree! whatever the case is for GT, i would love to see the per weapon costing done for non-tournament style play.

I would propose that you consider looking at 3 patterns as a starting point. That can give you a "one each" weapon set (AT, CC, Fire support) to test and after looking at those results, you might then consider upping the number of patterns.

Nine variables is still a fair bit to test, but +fifteen is a lot tougher.

Also, another consideration is to use the existing patterns as the bench mark and then add two each for some specialization.
