Quote (CyberShadow @ 18 2003 July,05:15) | Well, Jervis has mentioned that there will be a big update to the Epic site after the weekend, including the return of the Lost and Damned list! | Well the new stuff is up. Includes a new Chaos list.

Before you do anything, I would look at the new list. As others have said, the changes the chaos list could go through might be major (sort of chaos'ish like! ).
The new list can be found at:

And remarkably, I still have no desire to play a chaos force, despite the fact that in SM and in Epic they were constantly one of my top two favorites.

G'day!
I had exactly the same thoughts but am contenting myself with just collecting the figures at the moment. I'll finish up my Ork and IG armeis and see what happens with the GW list. If I'm not happy with the official lists, I'll be going the way of L4; my own!
You 'll find the thread on stripping plastic minis at:

Hi!
I agree with Tas and Legion4, if you have you're own ideas on how it should be organized do so. Besides there is no guarantee that your wait for GW to catch up wont be as long as the last wait for chaos (which, by the way people are STILL waiting for).

It's still overwhelmingly generic.
I really liked Black Legion back before the Abaddon story line was added to the background. I even had a company painted up. Now I find them insanely annoying, much like Space Wolves.
I think you could do a Khorne or Nurgle army just fine, but I despise Khorne, and Nurgle is only marginally appealing.
My preferred forces are, in order: Tzeentch Slaanesh Word Bearers Alpha Legion
Tzeentch is right out. There just aren't the pieces there to put together a Thousand Sons army.
Slaanesh might be possible, but it still looks a bit bland.
Word Bearers would probably work just fine, but you would have to get your opponent to agree to let you summon non-faction demons.
Alpha Legion would also be okay if an opponent agreed to allow cultists.
So... out of the list, one is possible without house ruling stuff, and my favorite is just not workable. For now, I'm keeping Orks and SMs on the top of my "to build/paint" list, followed by Nids and IG.

Legion, the problem with that is that not everyone on this list has a dedicated gaming group who can hash out all the details for doing their own thing. If I tried to do that, I could never play a game.
Sticking with the GW setup makes everything very "portable" for lack of a better term. It's a very convenient short hand for being able to play a fairly fun and balanced game. In that aspect, their standardized rules add a tremendous level of value, even if they are not perfectly satisfactory.

Let's push the subject a little and see what happens. Go to the playtest and see what I posted:

Maybe we can get some talk going...

Legion 4,
I will always agree with you on the "do what is best for you" way of thinking. However, I must say, it is not always the best answer.
As Neal has pointed out, the "Rules as Written" sure is nice when you go to find a pick-up game. No arguements about cheesy house rules.

I have always wondered how common are "pickup" games with epic players. Most I have encountered play in well established groups and rarely play with people outside their group.
Do members of this forum play with a wide variety of epic players they have never met before? Or do they play with more or less regular opponents?
I think this point would be crucial in the choice between z'my own stuff" or "official" rules.

Back in the early 90s there was a large enough group around campus that I could get a pickup game easily. There was a core of 6 or 8 that hit the shop regularly, but there were about 20 around town with armies. When I went back to school in the mid-90s, I managed to scare up a game or two also.
I know of a bunch of former Epic players around, but they all pretty much play primarily 40K now. Why? Because each of the game shops around town has a "40K" night that is set aside for pickup games.
I feel certain that a solid, consistent and supported game system would result in my being able to throw an army in the back of my truck and head out for a night of mayhem via pickup games.
