I don't care if you're off topic. It's not like this is a dedicated board.
I agree about the "crossovers" in the GW-verse. In many cases I find them incredibly goofy. For example, why do the White Scars have to have a mongol horse-rider theme because someone years ago made up the name "Jhagathai Khan" for their primarch (or whatever it is)? Same for stuff like "Mortarion" for the Death Guard and "Sanguinius" for Blood Angels.
The crimes on historical issues was covered in brutal detail a couple weeks ago, so I'll pass on that one.
Anyway, I think they need some better writing. They should hire me.

You can use me as a reference, Neal, if you go for a G/W writer job !

Heh.
I went for one, and after I sent in my package of resume, samples, and references, they changed the freakin' job description. Not that they bothered to tell me that. It was only after several weeks of non-response from the HR department that I happened to check the online job postings and saw what they had done.
After that, I decided that if their HR department is that much of a hassle to deal with, it wasn't a great loss on my part. I started to apply for a copy writer job that was also posted and decided not to bother.

Well that gives you more time to post on the forum !!! If I had $5.00 for every resume I sent out, I could have a good long weekend in Vegas !!!

The desire to have some sort of amphibious rules was mentioned a few times on the "The Future of E-A after Initial Rerelease?" thread and a lot of people (including me) think it would be cool to be able to do Normandy/Tarawa/Solomons/(Insert Amphibious operation name here) type scenarios, especially since the Orks did amphibious type raids during the Armageddon campaign.
So...I got to thinking about it to consider exactly what additional rules would be needed. It's not an exhaustive list at all and like so many things depends on what level of detail you want to get into.
Anyhow, here some stuff, please add you own and thoughts.
Offshore firepower (naval bombardment support) - Treat exactly as per artillery strikes. The presence of multiple units could be represented as separate strikes e.g. a cruiser and two destroyers offshore in support are represented by a 3 BP bombardment and 2 x 1 BP. Range limited to say shoreline +50cm to abstract the ships' ranges, and this way we dont need extensive rules and stats for naval vessels.
Fortifications and Obstacles - Obviously an essential part, haven't they been raised before?
Amphibiousity - We will need a list of what vehicles (e.g. Chimeras) are amphibious and can "swim" themselves to shore. Others will need landing barges (think LST) or something to cross the wet stuff. Swimming vehicles will have to have a separate speed, say 10cm, to represent them being slower in the water.
- I imagine establishing a "surf zone" say 10cm from the water's edge. If a landing craft is sunk in deeper water than that its cargo is destroyed/drowned. No save. If lost in the surf zone, they get a save.
"Bloody Omaha" effect - There is no cover in the surf or on the edge of the beach. Nowhere to hide. Units being fired upon in this area suffer a +1 to hit penalty (i.e. its easier to hit them). Nobody said this would be easy!
Scenario Construction - Not dissimilar to the old SM-era "Assault" scenario. Defenders get half the points of the attackers and may buy fortifications. Attackers cost normal points, can't garrison units, but may deploy orbital units from say turn 2 onward. Normal army list restrictions apply (and now I just HAVE to make a model of a Warlord waist deep in water wading ashore! )
- That's it for now...of course, there are lots of other more detailed bits that could be factored in or which could be optional.
Over to you guys...

Some good stuff, Tas! ?
For vehicles, Old Crow makes some excellent landing craft.
And GHQ makes some good Amphib. models too.
Most Imperial & Ork vehicles might need some modifications.
Chimeras could be equal to USMC Amphtracks and L/Russes or Preds equal to DD Shermans.
Orks could have similar vehicles. ? ?
Everything else would have to be landed on the beach in LCMs, LSTs and LCACs.
And Thunderhawks/Vultures loaded with Grunts could be use for vertical envelopment, launched from off-board LPHAs.
As well as strike aircraft from off-board carriers. ?
"Lets GO!", Ike on D-1! ?

yeah some that Iron Crow stuff is very nice. I have some of their resin riverine stuff I bought at SALUTE 01.
I can just imagine how much fun it would be to scratch build some Orky landing craft
Now does anybody know where the proposed Fortification stuff was?

WWII LCMs would be a good base for Ork Landing Craft, then just add bitz! ?
I'm sure I've seen Fortifications, somewhere?
F/W has a few small pieces...

Quote (Legion 4 @ 04 2003 Sep.,04:04) | WWII LCMs would be a good base for Ork Landing Craft, then just add bitz ! | did just that with some SDD 15mm and 20mm Vietnam Riverine Craft. Added Pulsa Rokitts and BattleFortress turrets as well as Buggy Gunners.
It was too clean to begin with, so I added metal "cladding" to the sides to have a "gargant" look to the sides of the boats.
They're in the process of been painted at the moment (just a pity the moment is approx 6 months to a year)

It doesn't matter.
I've said it before mate... It's immoral and possibly illegal to make such comments and then not back them up with eye candy.
It's understood that they aren't finished, but that's no excuse!
