Last wednesday i played a game in a shop using my old IG army, when on question arised thanks to an IG guy which was witnessing the battle: if imperial guard infantry can only make one shot for every two stands, how do they react to blast markers? each blast marker supreses one stand, so you count the unsuppresed stands and round by two, or do you first round by two the existing stands, then apply blast markers? sure you all know about this, but i myself don't (although i have ever played using the second, more IG-negative idea)

Each BM suppresses a stand, then you figure out shots.

It's essentially the same thing you would do with units that had multiple shots.  One BM suppresses fire from the unit, regardless of the number of shots.  IG infantry effectively have 1/2 shot each, so each BM suppresses 1/2 shot.

Uhmmm... someone(that is, my last foe) argumented that if only one of every two IG stands has got a heavy weapon, then the BM are to be applied to that stands only, not to the others which are supposed to be eldar guard.. i mean, which are supposed to not be able to shoot a heavy weapon at all. I can see he has a point here, but also that if it is done that way then 7 BM are enough to make a infantry company worthless... and i don't think this is reflected in their point cost... anyway, where can we find an official answer(or is yours official? :) )
Anyway thanks for the fast answer :)

I'm fairly certain it's in the FAQ - on the boards if not the one on the website.  If not, you can post on the SG boards and Lord I can give an official "answer moderator" answer.

Alternatively ensure all your stands are identical and ask him to point out the ones with the heavy weapons.

Another way of looking at it is each stand has half a shot and Epic averages up. So if you have 6 stands its 3 shots, but if one dies you still have 3. Likewise if one of the 6 is supressed you still have 3 shots. If he still dissagrees ask him to explain the poisitive benifit of a dead stand as opposed to a blastmarker - 5 stands = 3 shots, but 6 stands and 1 bm = 2?

Don't worry Neal, I hadn't taken offence in any way. :)

In answer to the original question, check out this question from the FAQ:

2.2.7
Q: Do Single Shot weapons that have fired count for Suppression purposes?
A: They can count for Suppression. All you need is to be in range and have an lof. Actually being able to shoot is not a requirement.

The same logic would apply to IG infantry units - they have range and LOF, just they can't all fire.

The exact question is answered in the FAQ, section 5.2.1.
