Well, the new bug list has been out for a little while now.

What do you guys think of it?

I have mixed feelings. On the one hand, I very much agree with and appreciate what Jervis is trying to do. I like the fact that he doesnt want each army to be essentially the same, with different minis, and I am glad that he has resisted the continuous calls for things like bug transports.

I would like to see a whole lot more troops though. The Tyranids, more than any other force, should be 'grunt heavy'. I have not played with the force, but I like the way that it looks. I think that the ever changing formations could throw up some really tricky situations, which wont benefit tournament play and will probably make them either a nightmare that no-one uses for competitions, or a force for the munchkins.

Still, I am SO glad that I am slow at painting and did not put the entire lot of Termagaunts onto bases alone. I would prefere it if each base had a single creature on it, but that a formation must consist of a variety of set types of creature. But, that is just my preference.

I haven't played with or against it.  I did, however, start putting together army ideas in order to figure out what I needed to add to my existing (small) tyranid force.

I have to say I think the 1/4 limit on the "elite" broods is somewhat problematic in force construction.  I had no problem staying under the points for synapse creatures in my theoretical armies, but it seemed like I ran out of carnifex and lictor slots at the drop of a hat.  I think these are very tyranid-y units and taking a lot of them is not abusive.

On the flip side, I fail to see how anyone could ever get to 1/4 points of independent broods.  The WE critters are too expensive to take more than one or two (maybe), and genestealers are 100 pts per formation.  You would need to have hordes of genestealers, with the attendant activations, before you got anywhere close.  Personally, I think that would be a bit cheesy, and even if it weren't, I don't like the character of it.

Of course, it may play just fine...

I did answer my question, though.  In order to field a 5000 point tyranid force, Ithink you need to have about 30 sprues worth of infantry, with a handful of metal.

I looked at, it requires more study. ?I almost found it a bit confusing. ?

I still feel it's half-baked... ??? ?

As a matter of fact, I still get the feeling that much of E-A is still a-work-in-progress. But I do believe, like CyberShadow, the Bugs should have lots & lots of "grunts"... :;):

I haven't really looked at the E-A Nid lists since the early days when we were discussing what to do with flying Nid Superheavies.

I'll have to look at it soon...

Isn't that why it is called playtesting? It isn't a finished product, right? ?:p

The Tyranid, Chaos, and Eldar lists are still in the first stages of playtesting. I would be shocked if they did not feel "half-baked." I would expect at this stage the SM, IG, and Ork lists should feel more stable and balanced.

I understand that, it just seemed to me, a bit more piecemeal then usual.  But as I said, after 12+ years of Epic, very little surprises me ... :p

After 4 sets of Epic rules, and seeing Jervis & Da Boyz, going this way and that, sometimes it looks like they just throw something out there to see if it will "fly." ?

Which may not really be a bad thing.

SM1, as time went on became really "half-baked", the Eldar never got their due, and Chaos had to use Titans as Daemon Engines (?,!). ?

The change from SM1 to SM2 was dramatic as was the change from SM2 to E40K.

So I guess I am little skeptical... :L ?

I'll just wait and see and save my $ for E-A!

One of the things that can be both fun and frustrating about both Games like Epic and RPGs is that they are never really finished.

When you play a game like Chess or even something like Monopoly is that there is a finite number of rules. There is, for the most part, no Chess 3rd Edition with new rules for the Queen and 5 new pieces.

However, with each new edition, expansion, release, or monthly magazine something could change. Stats, units, formations, armies, background, and/or models.

This flux seems to sometimes be good, they can fix an issue. Or it could be a bad thing when things get out of hand, like the power creep that happens often in these kinds of games.

This means I tend to look at things as temporary, it will change at some point

No doubt about that, G/W is always full of surprises, both good & bad ... and that is in the eye of the beholder as well ...  :D

>> There is, for the most part, no Chess 3rd Edition with new rules for the Queen and 5 new pieces.

Actually, there were hundreds of versions of chess over hundreds of years (just ask any SCA participant).

Maybe that means that 200 years from now there will be worldwide Epic Grand Champions. :D

In light of the multiple requests recently, I've started consolidating all the titan info I can find.

Is there a place to just post a file around here? ?

I have a table with:

name
emblem
colors
princeps senioris
forge world
misc. notes
source

that contains everything I've found so far.

Also, I will be posting various questions about info I haven't found in the hopes that our collective wisdom can fill in some of the blanks.

First question:?If anyone speaks Spanish, can you please persue the Eye of Terror Spanish site? ?
It mentions a Legio Astorum as having unloaded from their transport frigates, but that was about the only detail I could get from the Google translation. All details are welcome.
