I played a game last night with 3 thunderbolt squadrons vs an Ork player who had 3 squadrons of FBs.

He put 1 on Intercept order.
I place 1 on CAP.
He use 2nd one to ground attack.
I use my CAP to intercept.
He intercepted my intercpt.

Is this how it should work?

We were confused.

Are you "jfrazell" on the SG forums?

Whether you are or not, I answered a materially similar question in this thread.

Thanks Neal.  No he's not - he was actually involved in the game in question.  I was just a  nosy bystander

Hey Neal,

Thanks for your help.

The entry in the rules were not very clear.  I wished there were some examples to make it easier to understand.

I guess the issue is thus, when can you actually use the intercept action against other aircraft?

jfrazell,

Don't get CAP (overwatch for aircraft) confused with 'intercept'.

If you have a bomber and move it on to ground assault, you then leave the plane on the field when you are done with your approach and firing action.

Now - I have thunderbolts. I can now go ground assault somethign else, or I can issue "Intercept orders" on your plane that is sitting in the middle of the field.

If I issue intercept, I circle around your bomber's backside and fire at your bomber in the arse with my thunderbolts.

CAP is different. CAP you issue before you see the enemy plane activate - aircraft overwatch as previously noted.

Intercept is issued after an enemy plane has been activated and you can see him on the field. He's already dealt his damage, but now you are going in for so revenge.

Hope that helps,

Cheers,

That does help and I think I see what the issue was.  We had been playing that, once a plane completed its ground attack, it then continued on, leaving the table (and resolving retreating FLAK attacks and BMs if leave wrong table edge etc) prior to continuation of the game.  We had not been playing it where the aircraft remained on the table after the ground attack.
