I thought MICV (Mechanized Infantry Combat Vehicle) was pretty much an upgunned M113 ACAV that still hauls grunts, and an IFV (Infantry Fighting Vehicle) is a 'heavily' armed and armored vehicle like a Bradley/LAV25.

I know the USArmy seems to like 'Infantry Fighting Vehicle' or 'Cavalry Fighting Vehicle' to describe Bradleys.

Yes, the Brad is an IFV or CFV depending on configuration and employment. ?The M113 ACAV is basically an M113 APC (I commanded a Co. of these.), with minor modifications, like the Bradley IFV and CFV ... ?MICV is a generic term, like APC, IFV, MBT, etc. ... But generally an MICV is referred to as an IFV ... :;):

- - - and then there is the Israeli Merkava MBT, which can also carry a small Infantry squad internally under complete armored protection.

So the Merkava (Chariot) , is the closest thing to a Land-Raider.

It also has the engine in the front to take the hits instead of the crew.

That was sometimes in the West believed to be true...

However the large rear access hatch was really designed for rapid ammo reload based on their experience in the '73 War. ?

However, I've never been it a Merkava, so I don't know if it could hold any troops other than the crew.

Hi Ginger,

L-4 is spot on. The rear compartment was originally designed for rapid ammunition replenishment.

In 1982, there was a lot of ruban combat and the M-113 APC proved very vulnerable is an environment full of RPGs and HMGs so, removing some Markava ammo and extricating casualties in a TRULY ARMORED hull proved to be one of the only viable solutions possible.

However, the price is that alot of ammunition has to be given up to carry that infantry. Tactically, that capability is only used in extreme situations or occasionally to get high priority troops to the front such as tank hunters or special forces.

The other more likely option is that high priority soldiers will be transported to the front in obselete MBTs that have been converted into APCs. The Israelis have done this with captured T-55s and even British Centurions. Many of the world's other armies are now following suite with the practice of converted obselete MBTs into APCs including Russia.

I think a more likely analogue to the Landraider would be some of the indigenous South African APCs.

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

Thanks, M/S!

Checked Janes... didn't mention anything about carrying troops, either! :;):

But I do like the IDF using "looted" Russkie/Arab MBTs converted to APCs!

Saw them on the news and on the GHQ site, IIRC! :D

OK... to drag this almost back on topic... ?:D

How does this look:

Warhawk
Type: Armoured Vehicle
Speed: 35cm
Armour: 5+
CC: 6+
FF: 5+

? : 60cm : AT4+ : Lance
Twin Shuriken Cannon : 30cm : AP5+ : Pulse

Skimmer

I am interested in two things here:

1) Does this have any obvious problems? Does it break basic Eldar commandments or tread on the toes of any existing vehicles? Does it fit with the general ideas, character and background? (Bear in mind that this is designed as a substitute for the Falcon Troupe in my force. It doesnt need to fill exactly the same role, but it is not a problem if the two vehicles have an overlap in purpose.)

2) What kind of points values are we looking at? I would be interested in a Troupe of 5 (or maybe 4), and would like opinions on the points cost for this.

Thanks.
