Been playing SM1 since '90 and if Epic goes the way of the dinos ... we'll still be "Epicing", regardless ...  :;):

Salamander, I agree with what you say, but as we all know, GW is notorious for NOT following normal business practices. The only thing I don't agree with is the idea that it's a waste of money to invest in a game that GW is going to drop eventually. If it's a game you like, why stop playing just because nothing new is coming out. If GW had never produced anything Epic since the demise of SM2, I would still be playing it.

Hi!

GW will never come clean since not notifying about new version or cancellations in advance permits them to unload inventory and make sales.

Lousy practice? Sure. But the consumer base has yet to punish them for it. Perhaps recent financial events indicate customers are finally waking up, but we'll see in the long run if thats true.

Dwarf Supreme:
I agree that you don't need to stop playing if GW cans Epic, but if you're just starting and Epic goes down whilst you're only half way through your army collecting... Yes there's Ebay, but not everyone is comfortable with or has access to it.

Primarch:
I feel the issue here in the UK is lack of competition. Most teenage boys find out about GW, they're the best known. There's nowhere that sells other game systems to speak of here, and finding opponents for non-GW systems is nigh on impossible. Sometimes a business reaches a certain size and market position where you are punished if you don't buy their products. If you work in an office environment and want to use software other than MS office you have compatibility issues, but there are workarounds (RTF files for example). There is no such workaround for wargames, and you either have to leave the hobby or put up with GW. I do know a place where you can get Battletech stuff easily (www.ralparthaeurope.co.uk), but they're also not well known as a system... plus the extent of scenery in Battletech is map sheets. Convenient for carrying with you, but not as nice as hills and buildings you can hold.

Gw has always been, is now, and will always be a hard to read and understand company.

Logic never applies to GW.

GW and Business Sense

Are Like.............

Military and Intelligence

The two words do not belong together

A game company producing a Rock Album :-:

Investing in a six year + project, for a movie that will only be in the public eye for three years }:)

Get your WH card game here ?:L

Overhead problems? Business Sense has been way over their heads for years, if it wasn't for the stonking minis they produce they would have gone under a long time ago.

While I may not agree with their business practices, I do like most of the games, and love the minis, so I continue to hang in. It is a psycological illness according to my shrink :-:

As before, one can always hope Epic-A will weather the storm.

Getting back on topic, I posted there yesterday asking about feedback (I've been away and missed the 30 day expiry date). I have had my thread locked after being told I'd missed the one week that feedback was allowed. The feedback thread isn't even a sticky. That is just about the final straw when it comes to the SG forums as far as I'm concerned..

It was a thirty day bedding in period during which no discussion of the forum itself was allowed. Then the gates were supposed to open and constructive criticism would be encouraged for the good of the forum.
However, the gates only remained open for seven days, not something I knew about until it was over.
The forums are now back to normal, with no questioning or criticism of the forums allowed.
This, more than any other single thing, has soured me against the SG forums. However, if I wish to comment about it openly and not in a PM to a mod, I have to come here.
Sorry about the rant, but I'm REALLY PO'd about the 'new. improved' SG boards.
I would just like to say that I think the mods on the SG forum are doing a very good job, but the constrictions they are forced to work under can make them seem a bit draconian. ?
Anyway, I'll leave it there. Got to watch the blood pressure.

Hi Guys,

The changeover from the old forums killed playtesting. The environment wasn't open any longer. People didn't feel welcome to discuss or post.

I don't blame GW for being sick of the "anti-GW" escapades, but going from "laissez faire" to "Big Brother is watching" really choked off creative contributions to the game.

The most active playtesters moved here to Epicomms.

For me, I could live with the environment, but the lack of focussed posting sections means that I have to read too many E-mails to get my specific army playtested and working.

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

Hi!

I think its better you and other playtesters just use these forums. I think in the long run, it will be more efficient and you'll get more valuable input from people that actually care about your project.

Its definitely better for those involved.

I think the commentators on the SG boards did/do "actually care about [the] project."

And for all the comments about noise they rtare went completely off topic/turned into a conversation like here. Not a bad thing nessecerily but it can be equally daunting to newcomers.
