Most OOP games have a bible now, which contains all the rules, expansions and articles merged into one holy tome.

E40k, 40k 2nd Ed, Necro, Mighty Empires, 40k RPG etc.

So, you don't happen to know where the 40k2 bible is, do you?  }:)

Judging by the online store, death will arrive when their stocks are gone. Many SG items are marked low in stock. :(
Netepic, there's a MoW group online too - will try to find their site. Or do you mean the 3 rulebooks?

Hi!

I think this would be the most objective definition.

If there;s nothing to sell, then GW has ?fficially killed it.

I have heard simular low in stock comments about alot of warhammer and 40k figures lately as well, some posters are speculating that GW is atempting to cut their stock way back to cut their inventory and supply them with some short term releif/ fudge the numbers a bit. I dont know if thats what is really going on but I do know this isnt isolated to the SGs stuff.

Are they affiliated with Dewey, Cheatem and Howe?

I was looking over a few things to see the stock levels. Sure enough Rhinos are low stock, but SM bikes are listed as "in stock soon". If they were planning on running the stock dry I suspect they wouldn't get the bikes back and just list it as "out of stock" or "temporarily out of stock". Just my opinion.

I work in the telecoms industry, and if we treated our products and customers in the same way as GW, we would be crucified, and would rapidly collapse.

If GW are going to terminate a game, then they should have the decency to come clean and say so. ?Outside of these forums, there is no indication to newbies that I can find that they may be investing in a product that is going to be dropped by GW. ?Saying 'temporarily out of stock' suggests that more is being produced and will be available soon. ?Fading out games without coming clean to their fan base in advance shows IMHO a contempt for the fans loyal to GW and the time and money they invest in these hobbies. ?Not everyone has access to the forums to follow these threads and know that it could be canned at a moments notice.

I know its a bit of a pointless rant because GW won't listen, but if they decide to end a product or game this should be made clear to the public before sale. ?Otherwise you waste time and money investing in a system that could go out of production and support at any time. ?A simple timeline, highlighting GW's intent for each system, including future development plans, or end of manufacture/production/support dates would suffice.

As someone who has been playing versions of Epic for over 16 years, it makes me very angry to think it might be so ignominiously dispatched, and to know that newbies could be investing in this system without being aware of this. ?Alot of them will be children (like myself when I started) or young teenagers, and buying high-priced GW products represents a significant chunk of their available spending power. ?Callous in my opinion !!

Salamander, I agree with what you say, but as we all know, GW is notorious for NOT following normal business practices. The only thing I don't agree with is the idea that it's a waste of money to invest in a game that GW is going to drop eventually. If it's a game you like, why stop playing just because nothing new is coming out. If GW had never produced anything Epic since the demise of SM2, I would still be playing it.

Been playing SM1 since '90 and if Epic goes the way of the dinos ... we'll still be "Epicing", regardless ...  :;):

Hi!

GW will never come clean since not notifying about new version or cancellations in advance permits them to unload inventory and make sales.

Lousy practice? Sure. But the consumer base has yet to punish them for it. Perhaps recent financial events indicate customers are finally waking up, but we'll see in the long run if thats true.

Dwarf Supreme:
I agree that you don't need to stop playing if GW cans Epic, but if you're just starting and Epic goes down whilst you're only half way through your army collecting... Yes there's Ebay, but not everyone is comfortable with or has access to it.

Primarch:
I feel the issue here in the UK is lack of competition. Most teenage boys find out about GW, they're the best known. There's nowhere that sells other game systems to speak of here, and finding opponents for non-GW systems is nigh on impossible. Sometimes a business reaches a certain size and market position where you are punished if you don't buy their products. If you work in an office environment and want to use software other than MS office you have compatibility issues, but there are workarounds (RTF files for example). There is no such workaround for wargames, and you either have to leave the hobby or put up with GW. I do know a place where you can get Battletech stuff easily (www.ralparthaeurope.co.uk), but they're also not well known as a system... plus the extent of scenery in Battletech is map sheets. Convenient for carrying with you, but not as nice as hills and buildings you can hold.

Gw has always been, is now, and will always be a hard to read and understand company.

Logic never applies to GW.
