Quote (primarch @ 10 2005 Aug.,05:11) | Hi!
Its rather sad, but I agree with Dafrca, that until GW officially "kills epic", I dont think any fan effort will have the legitimacy it needs to survive.
Primarch | On the bright side... the setup GW has already created, (barring some list hops) is a pretty good start for any fan based official endeavour for EA.
Epic40k never got net-epic'd, but then it came as a complete, and pretty well balanced system that required very little work to play straight out of the box (if you were one of those people like myself who really liked the system). The 2 pages of amendments released in the middle of its active life in Firepower magazine did improve the game IMO - but the variant lists did not.
Of course EA is far from a finished product, and will require a lot more work in netepic style before it is close to being something I will be as happy with as I was with Epic40k. However, I think it is worth the effort.
But let us not speak too surely of darkness that may not come. Humanity's place in the 40k universe is kind of a metaphor for where Epic is in the GW universe... on the brink of extinction but stubborn and glorious! Jervis is still Emperor and still transmitting despite epic adverseries on all sides... and I will continue following orders to the best of my abilities until such time as transmissions from Holy Terra cease

I agree about not pre-empting anything. Unfortunately I'm suspicious that GW might not give any warning, not giving people time to object.

If SG does can EA, I can definitely state that I will be active in developing new material.
I don't think it will ever be completely shut down, though. It's just too cheap to maintain the online material (without update) and claim it's "active" even when the reality is it is dead.

If this ever happened, I would CERTAINLY want to be a big part of the continuation of the game in the hands of the fans.

Well I suspect BFG is unofficially dead. The rules haven't seen many updates lately, and the last new releases were for Iyanden. Also kind of ironic, ships from a half dead craftworld being the last releases for a half dead game.

Let's hope the models are still being sold for some time to come. I am dubious as to whether GW would actually make a statement, or whether one day someone will check the SG site to find it gone. Odd since Epic has been around as long as I've had contact with GW, it used to be one of the games they would *always* stock in the stores as well until it got shifted (or shafted perhaps?) into SG. It would be odd to have GW without it, or Jervis and Andy Chambers for that matter...

Well, let's see.... Andy Chambers is gone. I suspect that there will be no "official" statement. I'm sure it will be more like your idea that it will simply disappear from the SG site.

Quote (primarch @ 11 2005 Aug.,01:06) | This brings up a whole other issue.
What constitutes "Dead"?
If we await an official statement, we'll never get one.
So what needs to happen to "pronounce" it dead and move to a fan based project?
Primarch |
When Jervis stops trying to influence development of EA... and stops responding to e-mails regarding development of EA. Neither of which has happened at this time.

Primarch: I rather suspect that without a statement from GW many of the fans will simply dangle along until they get fed up, or if the SG site disappears simply not know where to turn and forget about the whole matter. Not officially "killing" Epic will probably do more to kill the reality than a statement declaring Epic over.

Look at the history of Man-O-War if you want a perfect example of death by being ignored.
And Man-O-war *is* a great game.

I kind of got the feeling from reading Andy C's own forum that gothic developement was dead. He was about to start working on v. 2.0 of the game.

Well no matter happens, I'm going to continue to work on my 9+ EPIC Armies and various terrain. If they never release another thing for Epic, I'll still be busy for years !
