This was a response to someone asking how well Epic was doing.  It's a positive sign for our hobby.

Take Care

The miniatures have sold well in Europe. What I was told - and bear in mind this is anecdotal information, as I haven't seen any sales figures yet - is that sales of the miniatures were 400% up on forecast. Which is nice

Hi!

I hope and prey they dont get too cocky and start over blowing production, we need small production runs that sell out to make epic look good!

Let's hope they learned their lessons from the E40K marketing fiasco ... :p

Definately a good sign (as long as the forcast was more that 12! - It does all depend on the forcast numbers). Even taking into account that the game will tail off, people wont play without the rules, so the more that have the rules, the more potential mini buyers out there.

Hi!

A valid point CS, if the target is very low it is easier to hit, but I suspect they may very conservatively raise that bar as each stock run is sold. As long as they dont overestimate the increase they should be fine. I'd rather epic meet low expectations than fail to reach a high one. The later means no more minis, the former means the game will be around for a long time.  :)

I was just wondering how successful a "super-heavy" IG army might be - ie, one consisting mostly of SHT COmpanies and single SHT's.

Reason for asking is finding a box with 15 SM/TL-era SHTs sat in it, and starting to do some work with them.

I figure 4 SHT Companies, and3 single Shadowswords would make a decent start, and still not concede too many activations.

Well there are many Superheavy tread-head fans around here...

You'll need to add some grunts to those companies and some AA tooto make them remotely flexible.  Combined arms is always the key, but with some flexiblity it could be a moderately succeful force.

Of course if you went for 25% formations as not SHVY then the addition of some arty and recon forces will help greatly

I have a friend of mine who regularly fields two or three shadowsword companies and two Leman Russ companies, along with a smattering of infantry and support, he often does pretty good agaunst me. I'm usually trying to sneak my OGBMs Gargants up on him or test out the Titan Legions or use my speed freeks.
Lately I've been thinking about comming up with some type of Adeptus Mechanicus Fanlist concentrating on the Superheavie Tanks and other superheavies, and modelling the concept into Bolos, I dont know if your familiar with them, they're Giant AI enhanced tanks in a future setting protecting and fighting alongside humanity. Anyway I've recently reread a couple books featuring them and now I cant stop thinking about it.

IIRC, Grim, The_Real_Chris was sorting the basics for either Tech-Guard and/or Knight Worlds - whichever he doesn't do, I'd be interested in having a bash at too :)

An All Super HEavy Army is a bad idea, now just pack that box up and send it my way. :p

Well, OK I have tried it and it was great. Caught the other player off guard and was a winner. Now would I try that again on the same player, maybe. But not for a long time. Like most "one trick pony" armies, it will work once, because the other player is not ready for it. But in the end, if you want to win on a regular basis, as LR said, combined arms.

Troops and support are needed for a winning army time after time.

"Heavy Weapons draw fire" ... Super Heavy Weapons ... well you know the deal !  :D  In our games, most Super Heavys, including Titans, were blasted to bitz, early !  :p   That being said, combined arms is the way to go and MBTs, FA, Infantry, Hvy Wpns, etc. all have a place in the "show" ! :D

I agree with you for the most part.

But because sometimes rules have oddities in them, you must admit once in a while, a one trick pony that exploits one of those oddities can kill a well planed out army. Not that the army would win all the time, mind you, but I have both done this for fun and been the victim of such once in a while.

The game table does not always extract the realistic price for odd or silly armies. Wargames are not and could never be, 100% realistic. Rules have loop holes and problems, and if nothing else, the Mile High, Omniscient General is an issue.
