You can't swing a dead squig around here without hitting a refugee from the "official" boards !

Quote (Tas @ 28 2005 July,22:51) | Can one of the mods provide with with hard data about how many new members we have had over the last 2 months? ? | I am afraid that I dont have the exact numbers, but I would take an educated guess that we have seen around an extra 60-70 new membesr here in only two months, maybe more.
There was a time when there were more accounts to approve every time I logged in!
I also hope that more playtesters request boards set up here, there are a lot of discussions that seem to have disappeared and it would be good to gather them all in together again (and I think, important for the game).
I just hope that all of the respective army champions know that the option exists. I am perfectly fine if they feel that they are happy where they are, but it would be a shame if they didnt know that they could come here.

Quote (nealhunt @ 28 2005 July,14:08) | Anyone noticed that Epic traffic there has slowed to a crawl? ?It seems as if the EA crowd has largely come here and almost abandoned the SG boards. | For a period I frequented both. Mainly to read the AMTL playtest posts. I came back from holiday and found that they had re-organised the SG Forums. Did n't like the new layout- not gone back once since.
Cheers

Cheers James | Hi James,
I know what you mean. I rarely if ever go to the new forums.

SG Games has mystified me with their latest move on making their forums practically unusable... But I'd thought this when they started making rumblings about limiting support to free online support.
Frankly, I'm glad they've done this, because it's forced the community to stop relying on an unreliable source for support and start looking into alternatives. I always thought that 'that which is freely given can be taken away' seems to be the maxim of GW support. I'd written Andy about this and he'd assured me that online publishing was the way to go... Interesting theory but grossly inaccurate.
Now that the Epic community has more or less settled again into digs that are far more welcoming (Thank you EpiComms guys!) and every bit as enthusiastic about the game as we are I think that the game will have a longer life in terms of support... We are, after all, creating our own support now and frankly to hell with GW. So long as they keep pumping out the minis (and they'd be stupid not to, given we keep destroying their projected sales estimates for Epic sales) we can take this where we wish.
Frankly, I'm sick to death of GW. Considering I used to be a trade sales rep responsible for 1/3 of Canada's GW retailer sales who could see no wrong with GW I think that's a pretty powerful statement. Sometimes I wish they would torpedo themselves into oblivion.

I would gather some are looking around first before they decide to request more playtest sections be opened.
We have been looking at it from our perspective of "policing" the new influx, but let us remember anyone new will also "ckeck us out" and see if they feel comfortable.
Its always a two way street.

Quote (Grimshawl @ 28 2005 July,18:53) | It has been exactly as I feared it would be when they anounced their decision to go to this new forum of theirs. Its really agravating that all the bad things I thought might come from this move have pretty much come true and the few good things seem to have fallen thru. Grim | I feel your pain. I predicted that the SG forums would become a twin to the 40k and Fantasy forums and, unfortunately, I was right. It may be easier for GW to administer the site, but not being able to discuss stuff in the specific game forum is truely irritating.
Also, has anyone else noticed that the mods seem to work with a much heavier hand than what we are (were) used to on the old forums?
I hope things start improving over at SG, because right now there really is no reason to visit those forums.

Heavy handed is pretty on target, they have something like 4 or 5 locked topics on page one of the general forum right now, and have managed to spread yet more ill will amongst those posters who are still hanging on trying to last untill the thirty day trial is up, which by the way they are already warning people that they'll likely place limits and restrictions on the manner and content of feedback even once the trial period is up. Meanwhile I still havent been able to get any of those supposid offical ansers to most of the questions I am interested in and of course they are still finding new ways to look bad while trying to publish articles for the online Fanatic. And they are also having minor glitches on the board that they dont seem to be able to get a handle on, Just another day on the SGs boards nowadays.

I never really bothered unless someone emailed me and said I needed to post on a particular thread.
I started there, but all the people I knew and all the interesting conversation seemed to be on EPIComms.

Heck, I used to lurk dialy at the old one, this new one doesn't even make me want to do that...
Primarch | Ditto. I used to check in on it just about every day. Now I might check once a week, if that.
