Got in another Titan Legion playtest today, before we shut off the power for "Earth Hour".

Decided to try something different/unusual, and pulled out the entrenchments and defensive positions to drop the Siegemasters on the table!

It's too late for me to do the full report, so here's the armies for you to look at...

As my opponent said: "It they're free, why wouldn't you take them?"

Well, I made the army *before* I knew I was gonna be fightin' Titan's... *laugh*

In the pre-Rules Review, snipers would be great in a firefight against Titans, even for just the -1 to armour saves, let alone being able to "stack" shots on a single Warhound in a pair...  but in this battle, the poor, bloody snipers are cannon fodder!  *laugh*

Did your enemy know that he was facing Siegemasters ahead of time?

So much Plasma is largely wasted against an infantry force in cover (Inferno gun anyone?).

He is only getting a - to hit against the guard in cover.  So hitting on a 3+, or a 4+ if doubling, still very good at taking out units in cover.

Two inferno guns will be hitting infantry on 4+ and shouldn't be able to hit more than 4 units a turn, since they are all in a long line rather than stacked deep as well.

Which is still twice the ammount of attacks that a plasma gun-armed Warhound will be capable of, in a single turn (And it gets to fire again the following turn, potentially with a sustain fire order)... and every time it fires it applies two blast markers just for shooting...

In my AMTL list (Which has won two, lost one), my warhound pack has one Warhound with 2x Vulcan Megabolters, and one Warhound with 2x Inferno guns... guaranteed a *lot* of shots, many ignoring cover, and applying two automatic blast markers just for shooting at the enemy.

On the other hand, this army's semi-specialised infantry killer is Reaver Secundus, and even that has an anti-tank weapon on the carapace.

I don't see the 'yay' about taking so much plasma against a blind opponent TBH.

Maybe this batrep will prove me wrong. :D

We always play blind and my opponent was, "You gotta be kidding me!" when he saw the bunkers and entrenchments on my prep bench.  *laugh*

I'd say plasma is "ignore cover" by another name, as it too negates the cover save of all the pretty fortifications... *sigh*

Battlefield:

4x6

AMTL chose edge deployment.

Deployment:

Siegemasters setup fortifications in depth around the forward face of a hill near their Blitz objective (I discarded the second set of barbed wire as it was much more an impediment to my troops than to the Titans!)

AMTL had no garrisons.

Siegemasters garrisoned both Ragnarok formations in cover and on overwatch.  Regimental HQ, Infantry Company 1, and the Blitzen were all garrisoned as well, either in fortifications or cover.

Remaining deployment as below, with all Titans, other than the singleton Warhounds, in cover:

This'll be interesting... normally, I reckon a forward garrison is an unwise idea against AMTL...

Turn 1

No teleports.

Strategy roll: The Siegemasters are shocked to be going first after re-rolling a tie!

Sieger Thunderbolt Squadron 1 buzzes down to fire on Reaver Primus? and places a Blast Marker.

Hoping to end the fight before it?s begun, the Deathstrikes then sustain fire on Reaver Primus, launching both missiles. ?Roll to hit: ?Box cars!? ?Roll for damage: ?Six! Total? *SIGH*? ?The Reaver loses 4 Void shields and 2DC, shaken, but not stirred.

Detecting armoured targets just in range, Reaver Primus stays in cover and sustains fire on Ragnaroks 2, scores eleven hits? and takes out 2 Ragnaroks.

Reaver Secundus does the same thing, but fires on Ragnaroks 1, taking out 1 clunky tank.

Sieger Thunderbolt Squadron 2 dives down and ground attacks Reaver Primus? but only puts another Blast marker on the unshielded Titan.

Ragnarok Squadron 2 hesitates, but the Supreme commander gets them to marshal, firing on Reaver Primus, doing no damage but breaking the mighty machine, which backs off a bit, out of line of sight. ?This bolsters the tank crews who remove all Blast markers.

The AMTL Thunderbolts then show up to intercept Sieger T-bolts 2, but the Siegers jink out of harm?s way.

The Blitzen try to go on overwatch, but fail, regrouping and clearing their single Blast marker.

Warhound Delta (disguised as a Nurgle Plaguetower!) advances to fire on Ragnarok 2. ?The swamp steams as 3 Ragnaroks are totaled, breaking the surviving Commissar and his tank, who back off from the front line and into the woods.

Infantry Company 2 sustains fire, dropping Thudd Gun rounds on Warhound Delta, dropping a Void shield.

Warhound Charlie (also looking a little Chaotic!) advances on Ragnarok 1, catching a Blast marker from their overwatch fire. ?Plasma blasts take out another Ragnarok, breaking the tanks who fall back.

The Reg HQ sustains fire Warhound Charlie? and drops a Void shield.

Warhounds Beta (Revenants... oh my!) double up, moving from cover to cover?

ASIDE ? My AMTL opponent almost always moves his Titans ?cover-to-cover?, being at -1 to be hit is worth the dangerous terrain tests, especially with walker. ?Now, over the course of this entire game, we made *57* dangerous terrain tests, including infantry running through razorwire, and? neither of us failed a single test! ?*laugh*

One Warhound unloads on the Blitzen on the hill, killing one of the AA guns.

Hearing the radio chatter that large targets are approaching, the Shadowsword attempts to advance? and fails? *sigh* ?The shame-faced Commissar shoots the tank commander to regroup the Titan-hunting superheavy. (Oh man that failed activation hurt!)

Warhound Pack Alpha doubles up? and doesn?t fire anything, waiting for the proper targets?

The Sapper Platoon seems overly eager to provide such targets and marches into the woods near Pack Alpha!

Infantry Company 1 sustains fire on Warhound Charlie, doing no damage, but breaking it?

End of Turn:

All Titans rally, and restore a lost Void shield each.

Both the Blitzen and Ragnarok Squadron 1 fail to rally for the Siegers.

A couple of infantry formations in cover are quite a decent stumbliong block for AMTL, I find.

If the titans ignore them then they can push forwars to grab objectives and get cross fire, andif they shoot them they have cover saves -1 to hit and are only infantry.

You didn't use the birthday rule, so this game is now null and void as you weren't playing by the proper rules. :p

Detecting armoured targets just in range, Reaver Primus stays in cover and sustains fire on Ragnaroks 2,

Don't garison forwards against AMTL! :D
