That's the way I see it D.  Based on the intel here ...  Maybe I'm "jumping the gun" in saying in a few months F/W Epic will go the way of the dinos ?  But it sure sounds that way to me ...

Thats the way I'm reading the tea leaves too....

Sounds that way to me, too. We might see a few of the most popular things returning, but I wouldn't count on it.

So basically I should suck it up and get my wave serpents and/or falcons and/or night spinners and/or firestorms sooner rather than later, eh?

I mean, I haven't been back in the hobby too long, but is it just me or do they keep finding ways to put new pressure on players to either move up or abandon any long-term plans?

It seems like the only games and armies with which you can relax and build up over time are the ones that have already priced me way out of participation.

But surely if they see the orders come in from this tactical withdrawal we are fulfilling our own destiny by showing FW that there is a community willing to buy the models they produce. I can honestly say that I don't think FW will drop the line entirely - but have a much-reduced line and stricter casting controls.

See, you're trying to analyze this in a rational and business-minded way... that doesn't work when you're talking about GW/FW.

The GW response to "showing FW that there is a community willing to buy the models they produce" is, and always will be, "Why weren't they buying them before?"  They took a "pass" on 6mm Necron models and 6mm Tyranid models that were going to be given to them for *FREE*.  That's no development cost to them at all... and they still said, "Maybe later."  Thinking about that will put it all in depressing perspective.

Again, FW probably makes more from selling Leman Russ variants than all of the EPIC stuff sold combined... there's just such a bigger market for the 40k stuff.

I predict that Forge World will only keep the 6mm items that support the 6mm games they sell. Right now, that's just Aeronautica, so the models relevant to that will stay.  If their Titan game comes out, Titan stuff will re-appear.

Actually we never got to the 'talk about money' stage.

They just didn't want to take models that they didn't feel they could support properly, regardless of how much it cost them.

If their Titan game comes out, Titan stuff will re-appear.
Actually I'd doubt that, as the current Titan line is not true-scale.

Okay, you guys *did* it for free... *laugh*

I didn't meant the current Titans, I meant "Titan stuff", as in, stuff for Titans...

I don't think we will see FW bring back the infantry given the reviews and fragility of the models under regular use. We can hope that they will keep things like the Tau command pack, crisis and broadsides since they are integral to actually making an army.

I think someone mentioned that the AI stuff will stay so that means hydras, manticores, eldar firestorms, and tau skyrays will still be around since they are listed in the lineup for AI.

This gives me hope for eldar falcons and the Tau vehicle line since the only additional piece needing to be cast are the turrets. Tau also has differences in chin mounts for devilfish. Perhaps popular demand will keep the IG superheavies, chimeras, and basilisks around but there is less hope of that.

How many Tau tanks would actually be buildable using the skyray chassis but with suitable turret proxies?

All hammerhead variants. they use the same hull, just different turrets. The devilfish just needs a chin gun and a cap over the turret plug on top.

Of the units in the list (ie not the othe hammerhead variants)

hammerhead with railgun
hammerhead with ion cannon
devilfish
Stingray - is that still in the list?

The Orca is the basis of the Scorpionfish

Basically the only vehicles that wouldn't be covered by AI models and turret add-ons would be the piranhas+tetras.

Does AI seriously generate more sales than Epic?  That really surprises me.  I've never met anyone that plays the thing.

So, to be clear: we could, potentially (thanks to the powers of Otterchaos, the least known Chaos God), have Tau tanks, but without giving money to FW or GW?

Rather than designing new proxies someone could always 'duplicate' the current ones maybe?
