Hello.

I've been pointed here from Warseer. I'm just taking up Epic now with a buddy or two of mine. I've chosen Eldar (the Swordwind list), and I'm now starting to construct my army. Currently I've grabbed one of the old Epic 40k warhost boxes (60 guardians and 8 Mk I Falcons) and three of the old Nightwings from ebay. I haven't really built a list yet, and I don't really know where else I'll be going from here, aside from buying some of the current warhost boxes new.

Anyway, just thought I'd introduce myself. I'm set to have a whole lot of questions about this game as I learn it, and I've already enjoyed looking through some of the painting/ modeling logs and tactics threads here. This place seems like a great resource.

Thanks for the warm welcomes, all.

My first chunk of epic stuff arrived today! It's the old 'eldar legion' box from 1993. I was under the impression that it was 8 Mk I falcons and 16 guardian stands. Turns out it's 12 Mk I falcons and 24 guardian stands; so (with a little creative modeling/painting/counts as) three full guardian warhosts with transport. Interestingly, there are no flying bases included. Either this set never had them or they just aren't in the box I bought on ebay. What would you guys suggest for easy falcon/wave serpent bases?

Also, if anyone has any input, I'd planned on buying two or so of the warhost boxes from the specialist games site, but now I'm not so sure i need another four guardian warhosts... Still, I'd like to get some aspect warriors and jetbikes into the mix, so it may still be worth grabbing them, no?

If you don't mind the old style jetbikes you can get them relatively inexpensively from chaosorc. For bases, I see quite a few of the standard 40k bases being used for them but I think they are a little too thick. Perhaps some 2mm plasticard or the like would work with some thin brass rod. At the height you will have the skimmers up in the air, it won't really be visible.

It never came with flying bases.

As one idea i use the old falcons as wave serpents and the new falcons as, well, falcons! No eldar army should leave home without the best transports in the game!
3 Guardian Warhosts is more than enough for most games; add one or two aspect formations and you're off!
Oh! And welcome to the forums! Do you have an army list planned at all? How many games have you played?
Best of
yrs,
RYan

Yeah, probably still worth it. You probably won't need any more Guardians, but there's plenty of other stuff in the box that's well worth having.

I'm definitely going to use the old falcons as wave serpents. I'll probably get a few packs of the current ones from fw.

I don't really have much of a list yet. It kind of depends on what I can get from ebay. Odds are I'm going to toss in an aspect warrior host, a wind rider troupe, and one or two ranger troupes. I'll also sprinkle in some wraithguard and support weapons for the guardians. I want to throw in a pair of revenants, but my principle opponent is imperial guard and I'm worried they might not be sturdy enough.

I haven't played any games yet. A buddy of mine and I are starting fresh, so we're still in the planning stages, and snagging any good secondhand deals we find.
