Links worked for me, thanks Dafrca, very instructive. I know that airships are 'old hat' in the 'real' world but I for one would really love a go at that, hooking on a heavier than air to a lighter that is. It's also interesting that they were good enough at this to do away with landing gear completely. By the way does anyone know of any real reason we don't do airships anymore, i know that fear of the gasses involved put paid to them but a) most of that theory has actually been discredited b) gas technology has improved enormously.

However, personally I think airships might well have some kind of comeback in front of them in cargo hauling. As they don't need to use fuel to generate lift they may well be more economical than planes in the near future.

AHhh - why wont they work for me???
Justiniel - the efficiency and safety aspects of modern fuselages forms, gas turbine engines etc just superceeded them as surely as cars did horse and carts

Interesting thing is, they are making a come back somewhat as mass trasport platforms. They could go into places others could not. But I do not know if that is enough for them to make a come back for sure.
