I am working on some Necromunda terrain pieces, and the cheapest way to build those is out of styrofoam. I need to know:

*** Is a glue or adhesive that will stick them together as quick as superglue? ?***

Which, btw, is eating this particular type of foam.

Also, on a related note:

*** Is there a fast-acting glue that will stick wood to wood? ***

All comments and suggestions welcome.

Tough one... Obviously PVA glue is the best choice in most situations but it does take a long time to dry. If you've cut your sttyrofoam parts to shape you could cover them in a very thin layer of PVA glue -it should dry in a matter of half an hour or so. This way the styrofoam is sealed and you can use most types of glue on it including Superglue.

I haven't tried a hot glue gun yet. Does it melt the foam? Otherwise it might be a good alternative.

Cheers! :)

I was saving the hot glue gun for a last resort, in case it does melt the foam.  What is the cheapest PVA glue?  Err, here in the US?  Anyone?

PVA is really the only solution, as stated it is rather on the slow side :(
I can't even think of any brand names to try, let alone a US supplier, sorry. You could try art suppliers, it's used in both art and framing services.
but regardless, whatever you do DO NOT burn it, it starts to give off cyanide gas.

Hi Iblisdraxis, I use EVO-STIK PVA glue - not too fast, but good enough, and take note of Justiniel's warning - this stuff is toxic when it breaks down. :(

If you seal wood, you can use superglue on it.  Prime it with a mist coat.  It should be glue-able in 5-15 minutes (depending on temp, humidity, how good you are at misting, etc).

For cheap PVA, the best value for the money is hitting a DIY store and getting a gallon jug, assuming you have need of that much...

Liquid Nails.

I used it to glue foam to wood and foam to foam and it works like a charm.  You can fine it in Home Depot.

PVA? Surely you mean the really cheap and cheerful stuff they give to kids? The stuff i've been finding makes really good bases when mixed with sand?

I'd use cocktail sticks to pin the foam pieces together as well as dosing everything in PVA, just to give it some more support.

I always thought PVA glue was the White Glue, like Elmers etc. Am I wrong?

Is that how you made up your great waterfall terrain last year CC? ?

That was a great setup and one that I will be attempting shortly also. ?Any hints or things I can learn from your project? ?What material were the river sections based on?

Oh, btw, are you sure PVA is the same as Elmers?  Giving kids stuff that releases cyanide when burned?  ???

Hot glue works a treat, I used loads of it on the Necro pieces I built last year; its quick and easy and doesn't melt the foam at all.
I do use PVA for when time is not of the essence however...
