My buddy is trying to get us tickets on line from "Fandango" ?! Hope he's successful ... I still think we should wait. But we'll see tonight after work ...

And you can judge the film by the fact that I dragged out my first model kit (as opposed to wargaming stuff) for a decade - an old MPC AT-AT. | LOL. Yeah that opening battle sure is sweet! Now if only George Lucas decided to do "BFG the movie"
I know the movie has got a lot of critique on the dialogue and certain elements of the plot but I must say that I was positively surprised. Sure there are certain moments that are a bit "woody" but then again this is Star Wars and not Shakespeare. If you take the movie for what is is, entertainment, then I'd say that it is 2,5 hours well spent. There's just one line near the end of the movie which I really really hate but I won't give away any spoilers though I thinnk you'll know it when you hear it. All in all I would say that it is definitely the best of the new trilogy and might just compede with some of the OT movies. Still Empire Strikes Back remains the best of the lot
Cheers!

Hi!
I'm waiting until next weekend. The kid finishes school on Wednesday, it will be easier that way.

It certainly has its moments, but there were things *missing* for me which made it a good film, but not an excellent film.
I think I must be getting old I much prefer the special effects from the first film than the modern stylised CGI effects of this film.

Hi!
While CGI makes for some interesting effects, I find it somewhat "fake" looking. So I agree with your assessment of older "Specail effects".

I was going to wait for the DVD because the last two were so bad. Must admit the buzz on this one has been making me think it might be worth a try.

Just got back from seeing it, with my crew ! Pretty good ! Some BFG and Epic battles ! Thought the Stormtrooper units having different color armor was an interesting touch ... However orange and white are not tactical colors, but there was an outfit in camo ! Watch for it !

Dafrca - nice to see you back! It IS better than I and II, and the opening battle is one of the best yet - possibly because of the spectacular backdrop, I think. And the sad end is an expected outcome which had to run its course, but I guess it's appreciated. Maltese cinema crowds are not usually boisterous, but it was a strangely quiet lot who came out of the cinema after 'Revenge'

Sounds like your foreboding of bad crowding was for nothing L4- great! It obviously didnt detract from the movie at any rate!

Seen it Friday evening. Decent movie, money well spent. Certainly far better than Episode I and II, but that's not saying much.
Still a far cry from the first two movies, however. Lucas is obviously too much in love with his special effect toys and as a consequence forgot how to properly direct a movie. A pity.
I must also state that, contrary to many out here, I slightly prefer A New Hope over The Empire Strikes Back. While the dark mood of the latter is certainly very good, the former proposed a fascinating, complex political environment which got lost with the introduction of the Emperor and the subsequent reduction of the series to "Superhero vs Supervillain".

I saw it last night....I'll give it a B+. And that just for keeping that moron Jar Jar out of the movie except for one scene. (If he'd killed him off at the beginning of the film, I'd give him an A! ) The movie has the same issues that the first two did, namely, poorly written and very poor character development. Makes me want to scream! The action bits were of course top notch, as were the special effects, but I grow tired of the 'lets insert {whoever} here just to get another action figure' effect. He did tie the movie in nicely with Episode IV, but then, anyone could have done that, just a matter of connecting the dots. I stand by my judgement, Episode V: the Empire Strikes Back is the greatest of them all.
At least untill the Fat Man dies and someone else (please please please ) with the sense to get a decent writer in there makes the final 3 in the series of movies.
Or maybe I'm just jaded...who knows? But I refuse to accept the 'kiddification' of one of my favorite series.
as always,
my 2cents,
