Well, I strive for painted-only, but doggone it sometimes you just reeeally want to play with the new toys.
It also doesn't work so well for playtesting, especially when some of the minis aren't even in production.

Hi!
I think the key word is "strive". I have no problem playing with someone who is slowly painting his stuff, as long as there is progress, even slow progress.
Its those people who NEVER paint, or get it painted that are worrisome.

My wife doesn't paint...she gets too frustrated...Granted she doesn't play much but if it's a choice between getting her to play occasionally with unpainted models and her getting fed up and giving up entirely I choose unpainted... Due to the fact that I'm married to a perfectionist I tend to give a lot more leway...There are two aspects to this hobby, modeling and playing...I'm more of a modeller then player but I know quite a few people who just like to play...

Heh. I think managing to marry a gamer (even a part timer) in the first place is pretty much the holy grail...

She's deffinately more then a "part time" gamer...she's just a part time model gamer...She's heavily into DnD and other tabletop games, though mostly online... We do have a tradition of giving each other at least one model for every special occasion (B-Days, Anniversaries, X-mas)...

Fantastic. I'm abysmal at presents, and a nightmare to buy for (everything i want is either expensive or obscure or specific), so that would of course be ideal.
Some of the exes have bought me gaming stuff in the past, i do have to say, which was good of them. I'm still proud of the painting i did on the Bloodship my first g/f bought me one time...

As an aside we also both keep a running list of things we want in general; movies, music, video games, etc...That way not only do we have something to work off of when special occasions roll around but we also don't forgett about something..."That's right, I loved that movie! I totally forgott I was supposed to keep an eye on Ebay for it!"...

Women are easy to give presents to.....
..anything with a diamond in it usually does the trick.... | That only applies to the "average" women (if there is such a thing). The one I'm married to wouldn't fit in the "average" mold even if I tried to hammer her in.
Not that I'm an example of an average male...
