Hi WN..
great mini! I really like it. I think a spaceship bristling with weapons should exactly look like this. The normal BFG ships look much too peaceful imo. I wish I had one such ship as a spacecraft for my IG Epic Army.
I like larger pics included directly in the post as I have a fast Internet connection.
Cheers

Quote (Warmaster Nice @ 18 2005 Jan.,17:21) | How do people prefer them? As images uploaded to this site so that you can choose to download them if you want, or direct links from my own site? The latter might make the thread a bit heavy for those with slow internet connections.. | Personally I prefer images embedded into the thread thus no need to click further with new windows opening and all that.
I also prefer my images slightly smaller (max 600-700 width) than the 1000 pixels that you are using now, my laptop even with a 1280x854 resolution struggled to fit them into my browser window.
You can tell you have used a decent camera with a decent lense, the difference is plain to see.
You may want to consider getting a tripod and closing down the aperture (f24-f30) which means leaving the shutter open for longer. This will increase the depth of field thus increasing the amount of the model in focus.
Great pics and great models, excellent stuff.

Ace models, well done, lovely clean and neat highlights.
I'm on dialup, but these two didn't take long at all to download, and it is much more convenient, so I'd prefer them embedded rather thn attached too...

I thought the first ship needed more guns!!
I would prefer slightly smaller pics, so can see easily on screen, but I am personally fine with embedded, even when i use dial up from home.
Just out of interest is there a sticky or thread that explains how to embed pics? Preferably one that a technophobe like me can understand?
Cheers
James

Great work WMN! I like imbedded pics, even with slow dialup, and agree with Jimbos comments regarding image size BTW.

Great work on the Dreadnought! I simply LOVE huge spaceships bristling with firepower. I guess it is a by-product of my love for anything superheavy.

Couple of things caught my eye, WMN:
1, What conversion work have you done on the Mars, as the prow (at least) doesn't look normal, and niether do the engines? b, Where be the Dominator's Nova Cannon? iii, Have you got stats for the dreddy?

I simply LOVE huge spaceships bristling with firepower. I guess it is a by-product of my love for anything superheavy. | Hehe me too! Bigger IS better ...let's not go Freudian on that one!
1, What conversion work have you done on the Mars, as the prow (at least) doesn't look normal, and niether do the engines?
|
I basically split the prow down the middle and widened it a bit. Then I cut a hole for the Nova Cannon (Which is also scratch built.) I'm generally not a fan of Nova Cannons so the few of my ships that have them are usually larger capital ships. If you look at the Apocalypse it's Nova Cannon is huge compared to those on the cruisers. For such a Superweapon I thought it should look as though it could barely be fitted to a cruiser.
Basically the entire hull of the Mars is scratch built from Balsawood with plastic bitz and pieces stuck on. The engines are simply plastic tubes with some patterns cut into them with a hobby knife.
b, Where be the Dominator's Nova Cannon?
Erhm... the ship doubles as either a Dominator or a Tyrant so the Nova cannon isn't stuck on in that pic... ...Allright it is a typo!

...But seriously: I can't really decide which ship I like the most so I might add the Nova cannon at some point.
iii, Have you got stats for the dreddy?
Well I've been tinkering with some but if I do it WYSIWYG the ship weighs in a t a massive 900 points! The philosophy behind the ship is basically an Oberon x3 but a whole bunch of problems present themselves when you build a ship this size: Can the ship manage to "pay for itself" in destroyed enemy ships during a normal game?
And of course there's a bunch of problems with adding so many Lances to a single ship: It WILL take out almost any ship it chooses to engage which is not going to make your opponent very happy
I am currently working on a mk2 set of rules for it which are more toned down than the original draft.
The ship was originally built more as a display model without thought to how it would work in a game but simply focussing on the looks. Basically it is supposed to be an Imperial counterpiece to the Planet Killer (which is also considered beardy by most people...).
Cheers!
