I'm sorry to hear that Maksim, what happened?

I can't believe that you're not a good teacher, so maybe the principle is over critical, or the kids played up something awful.

I hate these observation things. We have to do them as well. The students all know that something is up when there a new person in the room, and all the usual dynamics go out of the window. Hope that it all turns out ok for you Maksim.

Hi Guys,

It looks like most of the negative stuff that went on has blown over. My advisor spoke with the principal and told her that she had "misguided" me on curriculum. I'm not angry but the experience sure was trying. All this because she fekt that the children weren't being challenged enough. Oh well.

I was teaching math lessons with three different groups that rotated to the center of the floor where they received a direct lesson in using equalities ( 6 + 3 = 9, 9 = 9, 9 x 10 = 9 x 10, etc.). The groups not receving the direct lesson had priveleges that they could enjoy at their seats (Math coloring dittos, math games and toys, etc.). The principal thought that it was an inefficient use of time and that the activities were too easy for the children. She doesn't think that groups and centers are appropriate for math lessons. I guess I had to learn that the hard way.

Thank goodness that we have a three-day weekend now (Monday off for Martin Luther King Jr. Day).

Shabbat Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

Hey Maksim,

I am glad that everything has blown over, a simple difference in opinion between supervisors can have an enormous impact on the wellbeing of the supervised.....

Half of a job these days is defining the requirements of the political structure, versus the needs of the actual task at hand.

I know that your next review will be great!  From our few conversations, you have shown you really care about the kids and your job, that is the sign of a great teacher.

Best regards

Dalton

I went over to Jon's yesterday evening (Saturday 15 January 2005) and we had an eight-person game of 3rd edition Talisman.

We also ate a number of Asian-themed food dishes including some really delicious chicken wings with an orange sauce on them.

Scott (Minotaur), Willa (Goblin Fanatic), Jon (chaos warrior), Carolyn (Ranger), Vince (Died two times and ended up with the Fire Wizard), Lisa (Elf character), Rich (Also died two times and ended up with the Swashbuckler) and I (Skaven) played. It was especially nice to see the wives and girlfriends join in on the action. I wish that my Diana could have been there but she is having a PhD weekend.

Jon won because he was the closest to being powerful enough to beat the Dragon King and we were all tired of the game by midnight! ?:D

Jon wants to play some Arab-Israeli games soon as well as Downtown, a Vietnam air war game, in the near future.

Vince is hosting another game at his place on the Monday holiday.

Nest Saturday (22 January 2004), my San JoseTraveller group (Tactics-0, a Traveller joke!) meets and we are planning out a camapign for 2005, probably using the Striker rules.

Today (Sunday 16 January 2005) is a chore day: lesson-planning, laundry, R&R and the like! :)

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

On Monday, Vince, George, Mike and I played a small game of Starfleet Battles.

Mike: Romulan Cruiser.
George: ISC Destroyer.
Maksim: ISC Frigate.
Vince: Referee.

It ended up about a draw with the Romulan hurting the ISC destroyer bad, but then the two ISC ships mad maneauvered into superior position and had stripped the Romulan's front shields and would have done worse if the Romulan hadn't have cloaked and ran.

There was a scenario too, but I'll have to detail that later.

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

mmm....starfleet battles .... mmmmm.

Have fond memories of that game....there was a guy who insisted on taking a Klingon B-10 every time, and everytime we pounded the poo out of it with multiple lesser ships, usually Fed.   Good Fun!
