Well last night i finished cleaning up the models for my guard army and started sticking them together.
Leman Russ's, Chimeras, Bombards, Hydras, a Baneblade, Shadowswords, Deathstrikes, Sentinels, Valkeries and Vultures (they are all metal SG models no lovely FW resins in there).
It took me almost as long to glue the Valkeries and Vultures as it did the rest put together. Those wing tips have got to be the worst things to glue. Has any one else found this?
I tried filing decent flat surfaces on the parts for the superglue to stick together but that didnt work and i still ended up with small gaps here and there.
I was more sucessful sticking wing tips to fingers or even fingers to fingers ?
In the end i used brown stuff to carefully fill in the gaps and reinforce the underside of the wing around the rocket pods on the Valk's (these being the most fragile). Still broke a couple of wings just doing this.
Has any body been mad enough to try and pin these joints? Or is having these guys wings clipped in the carry case going to be a regular event?
Rant over!
Any body want to offer a more *++* frustrating model?

One thing that sticks in my mind is not so difficult to put together, but is extremely frustrating. There is a certain combination of third edition Predator sides and turrets which will not fit together at all. I found it. I managed to put the sides on the thing only to find that the turret didnt fit between them any more!

Hi Doc,
I agree with the Vults and Valks, they are terrible to assemble. I bought the FW ones. They have more parts but are easier to assemble and look better btw. I sold the GW ones on ebay and was glad that I now have the FW ones.

I havent tried the Valks and Vultures yet, but I have found that the Epic40k Manticore was the worst for me, could NOT get those stupid rockets to stay on right. Finally gave up and bought some of the early version that has them cast as one piece... Sheesh!

Definitely agree with Manticores- I had more luck sticking my fingers together than attaching the rockets.
Cheers

I found sometimes that it is easier to use the green stuff to stick them together than super-glue.
Still as fragile and can come off, but it's easier to use than super-glue.

@Lextar: Yes, I have to agree, with difficult parts I use a combination of both: Green Stuff and Superglue. On one point i use Green Stuff which holds the parts in place and on some more points I use superglue. The green stuff is only needed to hold everything together until the glue has dried.
I used it on the manticores e.g. and it worked pretty well.

For models such as the Manticores, I highly reccommend getting a spray-on superglue activator such as "Liquid Nails". I'm still using a couple of cans which some builders left here about 3 years ago- its brilliant stuff. Speeds up & strengthens bonds.
(& by strong bonds I mean we tested it by glueing two skirting panels together longways, leaving it for a minute before I punched it - I broke the wood, not the join!)
Smells like fury though, so definitely in a well ventilated area!!
Anyway, back on topic, most annoying models - definitely the 6-part epic marines. I've only just finished my first stand of puppies since games day & the thought of 11 more stands scares me stupid!

Another vote for the Valkyries and Vultures. Yuck. I superglued the wings on then doused the underneath of the joins with UHU. Not very clean, but hopefully enough to keep em in place. And then once you've got past that, the holes don't bear any resemblance to the size of flight base pegs... Grrr.
Though i've never played with the multipart Manticores thankfully. All mine being old enough to be one-piece.

I go for the manticores for putting together, nightmare, but the Valks and vultures are the ones needing almost constant repair, everytime I take them out at least one has broken again

If the problem occurs because the bonding surface is simply too small I reccomed using a tiny blod of Green Stuff which you the ccover with superglue. The GS shoouuld give ytou a larger surfaace for the glue to attatch too and in the visible parts you can easily trim off any excess material once the GS has dried. I often use this on BFG ships or other relatively large models where pinning proves to difficult.
Cheers!
