I found the link to the Mars Forgeworld dialogue at TMP:

"Ideas for Mars Forgeworld terrain 6mm Epic-40k ?"

It dates back to 07 Aug 2002 so it has been a project long in the making.

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

Here are some highlight posts from the TMP thread:

TO COVERT WALRUS:

Covert Walrus, I would love your suggestions. Please share them.

THANKS TO ALL:

To all: Thanks for all your suggestions. They've been great and any more would also be appreciated. I hope to post some photos soon of some of my partner and I's work.

TERRAIN CONTEST:

In the mean time, there is a terrain contest over at Epic40k.com. Look on the forum under events and then terrain contest. Rules are posted there and we have a few entries that should soon be posted.

WHAT's ALREADY IN PROGRESS: Here's what my partner and I have so far:

1. Tank Park:
(4 tanks, 1 destroyed and concrete tarmac)

2. Planetary Plasma Vents:
(3 Vents with red Cotton Venting Steam and contecting pipes)

3. Factory:
(Large structure and sevral small structures on a concret tarmac)

4. Repair Depot:
(Several large garage depots and cranes / gantries)

5. Adeptus Mechanicus Temple:
(Temple with Adeptus Mechanicus Statues, Runes, and other adornment)

6. Various hills and escarpments:

7. Lots of little objectives:
(Some Epic cast ones, small resin buildings and other things too)

8. Defence Laser:
(Surface to Orbit weapons - Microtac Laser and scratch-built weapons emplacements)

9. Powerplant:
(Large round structure with many vents on a concrete tarmac and attached multistory building)

10. Landing Pad:
(Large elevated round landing area with ramps and some rocky surrounding terrain)

11. Ruined Warehouse:
(It was orginally a Tupperware [plastic] food storage container that was partially melted in the dishwasher. It looks like a warehouse struck by orbital weapons now!)

All are done, started, or 50% or more completed (usually need detailling or painting).

- SCRAP HEAPS: - PLEASE HELP with IDEAS:
- I am planning some scrap heaps, but haven't gotten around to it yet. I could use some advice on how to do these. I know to make piles of bitz / junk and to glue down kitty litter and sand, but would like some other ideas, please. Someone already suggested using Armorcast rubble heaps and added 6mm bitz / junk to make it look in scale.

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

A few more useful posts:

For other scratch-builders out there:

There is a gentleman on E-bay and on the web:
Smokey Mountain Miniatures, who makes various white metal equipment casts.
- Although almost all of the casts are in HO train scale, many of them easily scale with 6mm, 10mm, or other miniature scales. I bought a lot (inexpensively) small tanks, boilers, etc. and I plan to place at least a few on the 6mm Mars Forgeworld scenery.
- He has his own store on E-bay and this is his E-mail: smokeymtnmin@prodigy.net

Mostly covered I think, except for -
- Scrap yards: For failed prototypes/alien hardware awaiting recycling.
- Recycling refineries: Ffor same.
- Oxygen release stacks: to go alongside the refineries (Why waste all the O2 being reduced from the ores when it can be directed into the atmosphere? With some CO2 to drive breathing and the create a greenhouse effect to warm the dump.)
- Food synthesis ponds: With all the raw chemicals and little or no room, combined with the insecurity food shipments produce (Attacks through the ships or spies arriving aboard), it makes more sense for the Adeptes Mechanicus to make their own nutrition via chemosynthesis rather than natural means. Wide pond-like vats, closed tanks and racks of chemoreactors spring to mind.
- Warehouses and armouries: Partly underground for security.
- General research labs ( heavily armoured): and firefighting / hazmat stations.

I even have a few suggestions for making/finding these items...

- Tank Farm: How about a tank farm (The large clusters of storage tanks for the stuff going to and from the refinery - bad place to take cover)?
- They normally come in either spheres supported by cradles (marbles?) or as cylinders (vertical or horizontal).
- Gratuitous Domes: And no set of sci-fi terrain is complete without some gratuitous domes (geodesic or otherwise).
- Funky Power Plant: Some sort of funky power plant (To power all that industrial activity) or...
- Drydock: A drydock (w/incomplete ship/Titan) might be nifty too.

- Titan Repair/Construction Scaffolds: With...
- Cranes:
- Void Shield Projectors:
(May be assembled pointing up for orbital plates or to the side for a base shield)
- "Fit Together" military base: With defensive wall sections (Titan waist height so it could loom over the walls)
- Alien Pyramid: For the eventual arrival of the Necrons (LOL)
- Hi-Tech Train with Monorail: Include destroyed rail sections.
- Minefields

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

Now there's certainly food for thought. Thanks for sharing! Who knows, maybe I'll build my first piece of terrain someday.  :)

Hi Everyone,

Diana and I fly out to Baltimore on Wednesday and I want to wish everyone a happy holiday and a pleasant time together!

I'm currently packing and will take the train to SF later today and then the plain later tomorrow. One good thing is that I will get to check out the Baltimore Battle Bunker, which apparently carries Epic FW.

*** Do any locals or semi-locals (Dafrca?) want me to pick up anything for them? ***

I should have some Internet access, but not as much as usual so if I'm quiet, that's why.

Her family always volunteers at a soup kitchen on Christmas so that's where I'll be on that day.

I'm looking forward to hearing about everyone's Christmas gifts.

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

Another short Commercial Break:

Check out this site and the wonderful 6mm WWII Armored Trains:

Press the Armored Trains button on the left menu to activate it.

I arrived safe and sound in Baltimore and except for a crying child for about six hours of the flight, everything went smoothly.

I am still stopping by the Baltimore Battle Bunker later so please chime in guys if I can help out.

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

*stops to wave in direction of Baltimore, turns and waves at Ohio (well the direction of the A3 motorway, but I'm sure it's close enough)*
