I am sure they will have a good time for a long time.  :;):

That is a very gutsy idea. List them all, with pictures, painted and unpainted as he suggested.  :O

Me, if I was doing it, I would start with just a list and hope for a picture of any kind period.

Well, I never saw the sense in aiming for the easily achievable; go for something extravagant, then ven if you fail people will say you made a brave effort :)

And how much harder than a bitz list would it be to get pics of the bitz (slice 'n' dice pics from catalogues) and paited figures, especially with some of the collections on here.

Something like...

Knight Castellan

It would also help people to recognise the figures that are being used against them :)

Further thoughts ensue:

I assume we'd be doing this onlie, rather than an "actual" boo. I'd suggest having it database driven, to minimise the number of pages of HTML that would have to be written. Have a combinaion of the name and game era (ie, AT = 1, SM/TL= 2, E40k = 3, E:A = 4) as the key, with the variant subsumed into the name (ie "Knight Warden A").

Each bit would have a unique id, and each unit would keep a record of which bit id's make it up. Have an id on each painted pic, and link that the same way.

Include bitz codes as well?

Magnus/Luca (who recently joined these forums) is the Netepic member working on the Netepic minis book.
He posted a sample PDF of the file on the Yahoo group yesterday, and it looks very promising.... :)

Hi!

I haven't commented about it on the list yet, but Magnus/Luca will welcome any help and or collaborative efforts.

I have loads of old stuff that I can produce pictures for, so I will contribute in this way.

By all means Dystartes, PM Magnus and get the ball rolling.

D'you know if he's planning on keeping it a PDF? Is he planning on including FW stuff?

Problems (in my mind) with PDF compared to database

- Slower to update as/when/if new stuff comes out
- Longer download times
- Requires a plug-in (OK, I know everyone and his dog has Acrobat, but still....)

Problems with db vs PDF

- Set up time will be longer
- Need to code an application to be the frontend
- Need a db

The Yahoo! Netepic group, sorry for not making that clearer.

I sent him a PM about it a couple of days ago- I don't think he would mind me reproducing it here, as it gives you a very good idea of what its all about;

My basic plan: the book should work as a companion to the Netepic army lists. It should be easy to use and provide a much needed reference for current and future Netepic players. Above all, it should be of help to players who want to build their armies without having to spend 500$ on that rare and special piece going once every two years up for auction on Ebay.

Ideally, the book should duplicate the various army lists, except that it would present mini images and info instead of fluff / game stats.

Images: color pictures if at all available, otherwise anything will do. My initial plan was to include the old catalog pages also, so as to provide both a picture of the "finished product" and a bit list with equivalent GW codes. But I just discovered that the UK archive does not carry the old Epic minis anymore, so I'm not sure if this would be useful at this stage. If I'm not mistaken, thought, Jervis stated that, due to the Fanatic reorganization, various Epic armies (i.e. Tyranids and Chaos) will have to do with the "old" model range. This leads me to believe that many of the old moulds are indeed in good shape, so it's anyone's guess about the future availability of old models. Will need to keep a look on Epic Armageddon development.

Wet dream: for *each and every* detachment, a list of alternatives (with pictures) ranging from the oldest models to currently available ones (either from GW, ForgeWorld, or anyone else). Example: under "Thunderhawk", the book would list the MKI (the "block" one), the MKII (second, slighty evolved version) and MKIII (GW current one). The first two would be marked as "unavailable", while the third one "available". Assuming there's some decent-looking non-GW miniature who can pass as a Thunderhawk, that would be listed too (if available - no sense in listing possible proxies you can't get).

Of course, there's no way in hell I can actually do half these things without help, especially in the "pictures" department. I have a good start thanks to an old 1996 Epic catalog, which I already scanned. I'll work on the images and post a first tentative "example" draft on the Yahoo list, to start a discussion about the book.

This is a really cool project, and the sample looks ace. When finished I'll be sure to print the lot!

Hi!

I'm not sure on the format, although that should be flexible. You should discuss that with him.

He will include FW stuff (already has in his sample), so everything should be included regardless of source.
