I wouldn't speak for Pete (he's more than capable of sticking up for himself if he decides to!), however I thought I should chip in and say that Pete was talking about the internet in general, rather than any specific part of it. He certainly wasn't aiming his comments specifically at the Fanatic forums.

Personally, I've found the internet a useful part of the games development process, but it really is horses for courses; some developers work better on their own, others like working with small in-house teams, I like the 'open' system we've developed on the Fanatic website, and so on. At the end of the day none of these methods is *better* than any other, they are just different, and each has its own advantages and disadvantages.

Best regards,

Jervis Johnson
Head Fanatic

...And if I might add that the Epic Community (Netepic, EpiComms etc.) is the antithesis of everything Pete Haynes rants about: It is a very polite place, intelligent conversation and lots of creative ideas which enriches the hobby in a way far beyond anything GW could possibly have achieved on their own.

I would have to agree with you there. Even though most of my gaming at the moment is the various Wizkids clix games (Mechwarrior/Heroclix/Mageknight) 2 of my all-time favourite games have been BFG & Epic. And I do like the way that both of these games are discussed on this site- its one of the main reason that I still browse this forum daily even if I don't post.

Cheers

James

Hi!

Yes, amazing isnt it?

I just dont like that someone who really supported Epic A expressing to be so turned off by GW's usual marketing bumbings.

Hopefully PG will remain supporting epic in some way.

Poor JJ is a bad liar, I'm afraid (and thankful, his honesty is refreshing in a world full of Corporate Speak) : he didn't sound very convincing explaining that less miniatures, no more printed books, and layoffs for everyone except himself was a great and exciting thing.

I really feel sorry for him, as it's obvious he gave EA his best shot.

Regarding minis, my thoughts is that we will get :
- Stormwind armies (Siegemasters are already out, so that makes Eldars and Feral Orks)
- rehashed Chaos stuff, including the various models that were made and not released (like those). I'm not even sure we'll have Greater Daemons, although we can use Warmaster stuff instead
- rehashed Tyranid stuff, totally out of touch with the current WH40K range
- a large garage sales after that

IMHO, people longing to play Necrons better hope for ForgeWorld to pick up the slack. We should start nicely asking FW to come up with comprehensive ranges for EA, both for totally new armies, as well as stuff for "variant" armies (Blood Angels, Titans variants...)

The only positive thing I see in that Fanatic debacle is that JJ is changing his stance on the inclusion of FW stuff in official army lists.

Hi!

I agree totally regarding FW. They are in a position to really "dominate" epic. I think they could clinch it by making the Necron line. Thus with the Tau, they'd be two armies that can only be had via FW guaranteeing good solid sales since you cant get them anywhere else.

In light of current events, JJ should abolish the infamous "rule 8". Whats the point of it now....

...none.....

Just so that the information we use here is as accurate as it could be.

Jervis has already said all FW minis are now open to use in cration of spin off lists and those lists going forward. This is good for the Tau people for sure.

Second, Jervis has also said going forward that FW may play a major role in the creation of Epic minis. All? No he did not say that.

Third, Jervis has not given up on either Epic or any of the core lists still waiting, this includes the Necrons.

Lastly, I think Jervis has tried to be honest and up front on all the things going on where he could. Does he try and see the good first, yes. But he has also been open about things.

Just to be clear, I am not happy about what has happened and I believe GW has been very poor in it's handling of the information once again. I just wanted to give credit where it was due. :;):

I guess it is a good thing that GW is such a screwed up company.  I mean, if Epic were ever to go mainstream again or had been from the start, well, who would want Epic players on every corner?

Hi!

But what good are army lists without miniatures? All releases after the eldar and feral orks are in that "uncertainty zone". Which I take as unlikely to never coming out. So in case of Necron for example, if FW doesnt do it, who will?

Rules are were never epic's problem. People will play what they like best, be it new, old or hybrid.

Miniatures however are another problem and needed to play regardless of version. Without them rule are just words on paper.

I hope FW really comes through. If they do, epic in any form can prosper as long as fan support it cranking out rules.

Here's a "GO FORGEWORLD" for the guys at FW. :D
