Hi,
For the most part, Pete Haines' "worthwhile contribution" *ahem* is basically a rant about how most of the Online communities concerned with GW games, etc, are simply useless and they're only there to provide fanboys with a place to yell their views at one another. He says that every online site he has been to is no more than a "gossip shop" and is no more than a bunch of spotty pre-teens bawling uninformed views at each other and being a complete waste of time for everyone. Most of his complaints are also about 40k, so I have no idea why this is in a SG mag, (I think they just needed to fill space and obivously had nothing useful to print.) and it appears that his web search is no more than a look at the official GW boards and possibly a search of "warhammer" on a search engine. After reading it I couldn't help think that Pete would be better as a tabloid journalist than anything else. He seems to enjoy typing pointless drivel.
Although his final comment does contradict the new Fanatic "evolution", as he claims relying on online communities for rules development and production are a big mistake. Me thinks this was written/printed some time ago.
Cheers, Freshmetal

Quote (Freshmetal @ 07 2004 Nov.,17:08) | For the most part, Pete Haines' "worthwhile contribution" *ahem* is basically a rant about how most of the Online communities concerned with GW games, etc, are simply useless and they're only there to provide fanboys with a place to yell their views at one another. | that's basically the thrust, if I get a chance I will scan it in... cough IPR cough, I didn't realise shite could be copyrighted!!
I also got the feeling that he read some comments about himself online which he didn't like and this was his opportunity to let off steam. Or how all the online sites thought highly of Andy Chambers (especially when Andy left GW) and no one said anything nice about old Pete...
I think he was disappointed that probably there were no Pete Haines fan sites...
The bloke fails to realise the potential of the web and says it is a waste of time...
My website has now been running since 1998, from the comments I have got via e-mail (and places like this) people have said how much they like it and like the pictures on it. The traffic speaks for itself as does my Google ranking.
Pete also talks about grandiose names...
Well Primarch is probably a bit much for him...
Personally I use
Felix as it is my name (middle name)
Jimbo was a nickname someone once called me at University, it stuck, so I used it online.
I personally thought it was an ill-informed piece of shite and was just out in to spark debate (which it has).

Hi!
It's pretty sad to be so shortsighted and petty. Websites like Jimbos and many other have kept epic alive when GW could care less about it. Even now, they serve as focus points for interest and enthusiasm.
For me, everyone besides Jervis and Andy are pretty useless anyway, so their words are equally useless.

Oh well (trying not to be petty and attempting to remain an adult [?,!] ) So what's the deal with Fanatic Mag ? We getting our $$$ back once they decide how & when they pull the plug !? I'm still waiting on #5 (with the Siege Army ?) ...

If Pete Haines is so rabidly anti-web, and Fanatic is being rolled into GW, that doesn't bode well for the current Fanatic playtest style....

Incidently, for grandiose names he is probably refering to the plethora of people out there using the title of webmaster, seeing as it is net terminology for the person running a site (I use it in my email address and when refering to other other webmasters).
Otherwise I am Netepic (accidently), Gambit, Thewebb, Druaga, Scarpa_Floe... ummmm I think that is it...
My friend is equally bland with Magnet, Pat Butcher, Jimmyboy and Chick Pea (Perhaps he is a bad example, being just plain odd... )

This came up on the Epic Vault... it was news to me and throws a whole new spin on things.
Gorkab4morka: Well having spoken to someone who knows someone who knows someone etc. It appears that all the staff apart form jervis have been given two months notice of redundancy. So it makes me wonder how much more of jevis's statement concerning the future of the specialist games is simply glossing over the truth. |
Jervis: Fanatic will keep on operating as an independent department until the new year. During this run-down period we'll be setting up a new team that operates as part of the main GW studio. I'll be remaining as Head Fanatic of this new operation, and some of my team should be coming with me. I can't say who or how many yet as we're still in the process of setting up the new team. Other members of the current team are going to move to other departments and jobs.
Unfortunately we couldn't start this process without 'formally' disbanding the current Fanatic operation first, which is also why it is hard for me to give hard detail at present of how things will work in future. Basically, we couldn't start to set up the new Fanatic team until the current Fanatic Studio had been given notice that it was to be disbanded. Hope that makes sense!
Best regards,
Jervis Johnson Head Fanatic |
This does not make me feel any better about the whole thing at all!
