I can confirm that this move came as a shock to the Fanatic Studio Operations manager, Tom Merrigan, so I think its safe to say the theory of it being outside pressure is correct.
He's also just confirmed that the prospect of me sculpting command packs & special character pieces for the epic range (which I was due to present the first tests for next month) can be taken as on Hold. Besides the dissapointment for me personally, I think its a bad sign overall.

This may be Epic's "last round-up" ...

Hi!
You're right Jimbo, about fansites not being able to make models. Its hard to maintain enthusiasm without them, although we've tried to do so with net epic for close to 8 years. But new minis are so crucial.
Well guys, just remember I "told you so" BEFORE epic A even launched (over a years ago), that epic fails not because the game wasnt good, but becuase GW will not support it in any meaningful way for any meaningful amount of time. The game isnt even a year old and they are "reorganizing". Which is fancy corporate talk for cutting, downsizing and generally giving epic fans the short (and pointy) end of the stick.
I'm glad NetEpic built its own support structure, it serves us well during "droughts".
Enjoy it while it lasts...

Hi!
I just read the whole SG forums post....
..it seems people have "woken up" to the fact that this "news" isnt good...
...this answers one question I had for some time about the consistency of epic sales...
..not good enough for GW, but then again that was easy to predict....
...hopefully FW will still crank out some stuff for us.

GW is such an @#$@#$#. Are they that dense that they think that anybody would buy the line of cr@p that they shoveled at us? This is a prelude to discontinuing Epic, pure and simple. First, they reintroduce Epic, but with no models in stores and limited marketing, and say 'Hey, it isnt selling! I wonder why?" Duh. Then they say, "Well, it isnt selling, so we will cut the staff and limit production, and call it a 'restructure to improve support'." Lord have mercy on us all. Next, they will say, "Well, there is no interest, people arent buying the models, so we'll can Epic altogether." Bingo. End of story.
Sorry, I am rather torqued at the moment.

Hi!
I'm a FW fan now (oddly enough), if they kept the torch going, I could care less about SG.

It seems that there is an opportunity here for FW to step up its presence in the Epic world. I prefer metal, but then , I prefer actual minis to nothing, and that is where I think GW is going with Epic.

Reflecting about this, one thing to consider is that Epic may have been a great success for SG, and that it was the other non-core games which caused the reorganisation.
Could it have been a decline in the sales of Inquisitor or Bloodbowl figures?
Could it have been people no longer playing Mordheim or BFG?
The answer is we don't know.
I have always thought SG (as opposed to Fanatic) was a reaction to the success of BFG in the US market when it was re-introduced and GW thought it would work with other non-core games.

Quote (primarch @ 03 2004 Nov.,23:25) | I just read the whole SG forums post....
..it seems people have "woken up" to the fact that this "news" isnt good... | When I read JJs post I immediately read between the lines and saw it as bad news.
When I read the SG forum I almost laughed when there were people who didn't recognise bad news when it is dressed in flowery language.
This announcement from JJ is bad news, plain and simple.
