Hi all,
I guess this should be posted elsewhere, but in view of the news on this list, it's only appropriate and descriptive that the Lost and the Damned List for Epic appeared today on the SG site. Nice to see the Lord of battles and Slaaneshi Knights and other stuff back, though.

I agree this is good news (look Firewings! Cannon of Khorne! Plague Towers!) but its been done by an army champion (in this case Audrey) not by Spec games.

So GW are relying on fans to do most of the development work so they can not support it???  ???

I juts dont understand their marketing tactics.

Well Tas, at least this'll mean (as we've known all along) epic won't die out as these people will still be around when GW shuts the door.

quite an announcement, which really doesnt sound good.  I hope that this doesnt mean we get through Swordwind and stop there.  I would like to see this continue as it has done where models are being released and rules follow via Fanatic.  I know in some cases it not been done in the best way but its at least happening.

Fanatic has done well considering and I hope it doesnt stop there. I will wait and see, it would be a great shame if this all went down the pan.

Jervis has posted a reply to the discussion thread.

Main point from it in my eyes:

3. With the amount of models still to come (Eldar, Black Templars, Feral Orks, Chaos, Tyranids, etc...) how will this supposed "online-community" affect these releases?

A: We will bring out all of the new miniatures that we have planned until Summer next year, but after that the rate at which we bring out new models is likely to slow considerably, especially for things like variant armies. We should be able to let you know exactly what is happening in a few weeks time, after we have had a chance to review our new release policy in light of the restructuring of the Fanatic studio.

So I guess we get swordwind in its entireity (yay!) & we will still get future armies (yay!), but at an even slower rate (Booo...)& with a reduced range (Booo...). Its still better than the no support we had for many years, but its certainly a big step backwards.

Now I begin to be slightly less optomistic. As others have said - the only thing the community itself cannot produce is the miniatures & yet thats what they're cutting back on. Its quite simply the models that keep games alive, not "official" support - if people like the models we support it ourselves (take Netepic, Epic40k.com, Epic40k.co.uk, Felix' gaming pages & dropship as examples - all were active during the 5 YEAR epic drought).

I'm still awaiting a reply from Tom at Fanatic but it seems like a very strange move to me. I would be very surprised if it hasnt been implemented by powers outside the studio itself.

So less staff and less models, presumably less content in magazines.
:(
Still looking for a bright side.

Still looking.....

Cheers

Or as I put it in my previous message:

5)"Even so we have some great new releases coming up over the next few months," = they have graciously allowed us to complete these before we are sunk to oblivion.

I hate to be right.  :{  :blues:

Not quite true. They just can not make minis that already exist.  :;):

A large group of the Space 1889 people got otgether and put their money where their heart was and produced some new minis for the range.

We could not do a Reaver, but nothing stops us from doing WMNs new "knight".

Just a thought.

This is what I am betting as well. If the move was powered by the Shareholders we are doomed. If it was powered by an internal power grab, then it might not be so bad.  :L

A fan based miniature production would be really cool. I have no idea what casting facilities would cost but I could easily imagine something like Forge World (though obviously not up to their standards) to be within reach. The really big problem would be infantry minis though.

If GW finally decides to phase out Epic I wonder what it would take to convince GW to let a fan based miniatures production become a reality.

All in all this is really sad news. Just as the future of Epic was looking bright something like this happens. Very sad indeed :(
To me this sounds as if Epic most definitely WILL be phased out sooner or later. We can but hope to get most major armies released before the game is discontinued.

Cheers! :)

Maybe F/W could pick up the slack ?  F/W Necrons, Chaos, etc., etc. ??  But I doubt that too ... :{  Oh well ...
