Quote (iblisdrax @ 19 2004 Oct.,07:02) | Ummm...how big is A4? ?Is that an UK thing? ?Or am I overly tired? ?
my 2cents,
iblisdrax | A4 is between Letter and Legal in size. I have found if I print out A4 on Legal it works great.

For Personal stuff: Almost finished my first 1500 point Flames of War army!! Everythings being squeezed into spare moments here and there so its far from my best work, but I've really enjoyed workingon historicals.
Had my first game last night too & learnt the power of the T34 Vs PzIIMs & also to fear German Anti tank guns!
When the smoke cleared, we declared it a draw, although on close inspection after the game, if we'd remembered that I could have consolidated after my final assault, I could have claimed an objective & won the battle!
Oh well, it was great fun, especially for a game which neither player had played before - we'd both drooled over the rulebook enough that we had a good idea of the basics even if we did get a few things wrong along the way!
Back to the commissions.....

Keep in mind in FOW that Artillery is king. I have had so much fun watching the Tigers burn from farther out then they could reach.
They may eat my tanks, but they have to get to them first.
Lots and lots of artillery is good. Also dug in troops are like a tick on a dog in FOW. Very hard for the OpForce to kick them out once they dig in.

Although it has IGO-UGO mechanics it still manages to be good. Oh, and yours truly helped to author a Finnish armylist for the game, BTW.

FOW is made by a New Zealand company... I think the fact that it has done so well here and overseas (they are booked solid for months), is due them adopting a production and marketing approach identical to GW.

They get very touchy when ever someone says that. But they are the GW of WWII.
Check out their web site if you have not yet. Look at their rule books. Read their hype. Lots of eye candy. Lots of Fanboyish stuff. Taken right from the GW play book.
But I like them anyway.

Got back to painting a little.
Drilled out the gun barrels on the Hero and the Standard Bearer.
Conversion madness struck me again. To my utter despair, my bits box is virtually almost empty par some bitz so mutilated that they are of no use at all.
Well, managed to dig out a Legion of the Damned Legionaire, one I have left over from the puchase on the beginning of the year, some of the crappy 2nd ed plastic Marines, a chainsword of the 2nd ed plastic Sergeant and a few Bolter bits. With a prodigious amount of GS, this will make me an Assault Marine without Jump Pack. Simply great.

Hi!
Been following FoW since it came out and they ARE the GW of WWII gaming. Some pitch, marketing style and same disdain for retailers. They dont sell to online retailers in the US and even play "favorites" regionally refusing to sell to some retailers while do so for others.
I've been on a couple of forums were retailers have spoken up about it. So unless they have adopted a milder stance recently, at least in the US, there is some dislike of their all too closely emulating the "GW style" of marketing.

Now that was funny.
There was a lot of push back when that came out. So I think they have backed off that one. But please, they are so GW it is not even funny.
