They may go back up sometime...
Unfortunately my site is a little too popular at the moment and this is causing me some bandwidth issues (which is to be expected with the image heavy content of the site.
My ISP allows me 250Mb of traffic per day (which isn't bad) but I am currently experiencing nearly 1GB of traffic a day...
This means it may be going down unless I can reduce the traffic... looking at certain files now...
Thought I would warn people before it went down totally. | Jimbo,
Might I suggest you set up a Yahoo Group for your picture archive. I did this for another forum I am a member of. It takes the trafic off your site and allows you to shift the pictures around. It would also allow you to create folders of stuff you only want up for a small time and then just refer (link) to those folders.

good suggestion, however a few problems
1. I'd rather not hand over the copyright of my images to Yahoo...
2. I doubt they have the bandwidth I need... and would allow...
3. If there is going to be advertising next to my picture I would rather I would benefit rather than adding to Yahoo's profits...
I am hoping to sort this out over the weekend.

http://powweb.com are good. Very good in fact! Its where my sites are hosted & i believe the EpiCenter too. its obviously a pay for space setup, but $7.99 / month isnt bad and you get 1GB storage, 5GB PER DAY bandwidth & as yet I cant rememebr a day where my sites been down because of any server trouble.
Glad to hear that your site is so very popular anyway, even if itis causing a few problems in its own sucess! Well done.

I am hoping to sort this out over the weekend. | No sure how you are giving up your copyrights using a Yahoo group, no one else does. I also know that the bandwidth has not been a problem for any of the groups I have helped set up so far.
#3 on the other hand makes sense to me.
In any case, good luck!

Not exactly.. from the Terms of Service;
8. CONTENT SUBMITTED OR MADE AVAILABLE FOR INCLUSION ON THE SERVICE
Yahoo! does not claim ownership of Content you submit or make available for inclusion on the Service. However, with respect to Content you submit or make available for inclusion on publicly accessible areas of the Service, you grant Yahoo! the following world-wide, royalty free and non-exclusive license(s), as applicable:
* With respect to photos, graphics, audio or video you submit or make available for inclusion on publicly accessible area of the Service other than Yahoo! Groups, the license to use, distribute, reproduce, modify, adapt, publicly perform and publicly display such Content on the Service solely for the purpose for which such Content was submitted or made available. This license exists only for as long as you elect to continue to include such Content on the Service and will terminate at the time you remove or Yahoo! removes such Content from the Service. |

| Yes, please read my suggestion again, then you might want to read their verbage again.
I suggested Yahoo Groups for a reason. I do write contracts for a Fortune 100 Entertainment company and do understand a little about IP and contract verbage.

Did we find somewhere that allowed us to link to pictures only? I could only suggest hosting the pictures on a seperate account (or a couple of accounts), with the main page on your home server. Then you would just the pics from a variety of places, but the viewer probably wouldnt even realise.

main problem now is
Each group has 20 megabytes server space allocated for Files.
my pictures currently take up over 100Mb....
powweb looks good, too good really...

Hi!
Powweb is what Tom uses and he has a space for me there (about 2 Gigs), so I agree Jimbo, thats your best bet. I find their reliability pretty good.

I am about to go to subjects were I know I am ignorant, but that is what makes it fun...
I thought I read that you could set it up so that only authorized IP addresses could have links back etc. Sort of as if the other sites were just different "internal" servers.
Now I admit I was reading about a network that was an Intra-Net, but the idea seemed to be something, if you could do it, that would help as well.
OK, Enough playing in a sandbox I am not experianced enough to play in.
