Jimbo,

A quick question for the boss regarding entries for the Epic Comp & UK Golden Demon.

I'm currently working on my entry for this years Golden Demon. I pressume, since its being completed this year it will also be eligable for the Epic competition.

It is, of course, epic miniatures rather than the 28mm figures it will compete against so I have no doubt I'll fail to rank. However, I can also forsee showing it to a few people whilst at the show. Would that count as discussion of an entry & thus disqualify it?

Should I keep it under wraps from forum members until the comp is over & I post full pictures on my website? (or just do a different entry...)

Thank you boss man for your time,

If you enter it in Golden Demon then this will not stop you from entering it in EpiComms.

In terms of "discussion", talking about it at a show is not (as far as I am concerned) public discussion.

In terms of pictures on your website, this would count as additional pictures and would be seen as a breach of the rules.

In terms of a different entry, there are other categories and the reason for the competition is to have more pictures of epic miniatures.

hope that's clear

Perhaps I simply did not read the rules well enough, but where is there a prohibition on having additional pictures available?  Once again, sorry if this is covered elsewhere.

Ooops. Just found this thread after posting the other.

"No links to other pictures are allowed"

I'm not trying to find loop holes, but doesn't that mean as long as you don't link the competition post to your other images, then it's fine to post other images on your website?

Just trying not to break the spirit of the competition.

This is aimed at all participants in the EpiComms Painting Competition and is not aimed at any one individual.

In order to be fair to all participants only one photo per entry.

If you post more than one photograph anywhere then this would result in disqualification.

There is an exception.

If you painted the model in 2004 and have already posted the image somewhere on the web then you can still enter that entry though you would be expected a) to no longer discuss that entry b) post further *new* photographs.

Please note this doesn't give you an excuse to wait until posting your image and have lots of discussion beforehand either...

This is not a formal GW style competition, I have volunteered to help out. Rules were discussed in some detail before the competition and I have tried to set them out clearly.

I think everyone understands that you should be posting just a single image of your entry and that is it.

If anyone wants to try and undermine the competition by trying to post more pictures than just their competition entry are really not playing fair. Yes you can interpret the rules in many ways, but then  again I don't want to have to hire a lawyer to set the rules out for all eventualities...

I think that it is worth chiming in here with three points.

Firstly, the whole event is aimed at basically being a bit of fun, a method of getting people focussed on the goal of painting up a few minis and showing off what the community can come up with. I may even enter this year. I have scarce chance of winning, but I want to contribute and join it, and add to what will be a very impressive gallery. Any set of rules and guidelines will have 'what ifs' and loopholes and exceptions. But, if we were so worried about finding loopholes in rules and strange exceptions, we would be 40K players!  :D

Secondly, at the end of the day, Jimbo is running this competition and is the grand high poobah. In the end, if he feels that any actions have crossed a line intentionally, he is within his rights to do something about it. and, by the same token, I am sure that if someone contravenes a rule by accident, he will be sympathetic (I have not seen him ban an entry or even use strong words yet at all).

Thirdly, there are basically two ways to run anything like this. You could play it fast and loose with the rules and regulations. But, if you do this, there will always be one or two people who feel cheated for whatever reason in the end, and that just creates a bitter feeling, which is something that we want to avoid (if last years competition had gone down that road, I am sure that less people would enter this year). The only alternative here, then, is to set out the rules strictly and make sure that there are no exceptions.

I am not aiming at anyone at all, or even trying to disuade questions, but I would encourage everyone to remember that Jimbo has a tough and thankless task here.

And now, back to your scheduled broadcast...

I wasn't trying to cause trouble;  I just wanted clarification for if I can get an entry together.  Thanks for taking the time to explain it.

Its a bugger to run, as you need to have rules but want it to be firendly in keeping with the objectives of the Comp
ie Have Fun and generate eye candy.  anything else is secodnary.

I enjoyed running last years comp despite the hard work.  I think Jimbo is doing a great job this year - thanks matey!:;):

I'm in the process of revamping my web site and adding new pictures, so just making sure what to include and what I should not include.

So dropping a few pictures until after the competitions no problem.

Like I said, just checking so I don't break the spirit of the competition.

cheers for the support guys

I think Cyber's point quoted above is probably the biggest reason why I seem to be a bit of a hardball when it comes to the one entry one photo rule

remember as CS has said it is all a bit of fun

hell the prizes (what prizes) aren't even worth winning....

...or are they???

???
