Markconz: Thanks for your patience. Perhaps I have been a little tough on HoT. If Battlestorm is not what I need, I will investigate it along with Armies of Arcana.

Hi!
I really think Armies of Arcana is what you need. You can use any minis and the rules are technically well done and very well supported.

HOTT is great for some large scale battles.I've done a fwe with 8 armies a side with 3 generals and 1 supreme commander per side.It makes the battle on the table only half the game. Its fun having the generals bicker and vie for the favours of the SC. One battle we had was lost by the larger and better force becuse of the command stucture. One side was allowed to alacate its command dice. The other had to hassle the SC for hand outs. We have also introduced random event cards to add a little surprise every turn. As Markconz said it is worth grabbing a set of the rules as it has more potential than it looks. You can also get battles done in good time. Cheers

OK, an update.
Following advice, I am quite pleased with an auction that has just this minute finished and which I have won:
HotT
This gives me more rules to read through, and I now (soon!) own HotT. I will let you know what I think. Now, I just need to find Armies of Arcana fairly cheaply and I will be set.
I did almost play Clan War at one point, as a friend had it and I was quite impressed, so maybe I will look at that in more detail as well.
Back to Battlestorm. I am still waiting for my copy to arrive (from the US), but I wondered if anyone had more information on it (primarch?). All the emails that I can find simply bounce, and while I have no problem with an out of production game, I do want to make it complete.
There is rumour of a second edition being produced, does anyone know when this will be released?
Also, does anyone know which suppliments were released for the game, and which ones were not? It seems that magic was a seperate suppliment, and I dont know if it ever made it!
Any information would be useful, as I am in the dark right now, and it does look to be a cool game. Thanks.

Quote (CyberShadow @ 20 2004 July,15:28) | Thanks. I looked at this set, but it seems to be set up for 15mm and runs at $30 for the rules. I will keep an eye out for it if Battlestorm is not what I expect.
Also, does anyone know how I can get hold of some Reaper minis in the UK, preferably via a web site? Thanks. |
AoA can be played with any scale and it includes rules to make your own troops as well. I'm in the middle of converting Warhammer armies to AoA and then I'm going to play it with 10mm minis. It is a VERY good game, and the $30 is the only investment you'll have to make (aside from the minis, of course). The book itself includes 17 armylists and any future lists can be downloaded for free from the website.
EDIT: About Chronopia, it just happens that I own that ruleset too (surprise!). If you ever want to try a fantasy game at skirmish level I really recommend you take a look at it. I simply LOVE the background and combined with good rules and minis it makes an attractive combination.

Thanks MP. I will need to check out AoA and possibly Chronopia as well. There goes more money!
As I read HotT, it just seemed that it should be played at 6mm. So, while I dont plan on putting a serious effort into it, a Lizardman force jumped into my mind:
Behemoth General x1 Flyer x2 Rider x2 Blades x2 Warband x1 Shooter x1 Horde x4
How does that look?

Hi!
I echo Mojarns recommendations. If you like a set of rules that lets you play any kind of army, then AoA is the way to go. If you like warband kind of warfare then Chronopia is very good.
