Hello to you all,
I'm building and experimenting with my new imperial fleet and of course questions arise. I'm realy tempted by taking the maximum number of battle cruisers, mainly because of the dorsal lances and the extra range.
Overlord: very nice range feels like a must have(?) Mars: well, here I'm not sure wether the 50 points more then a dicator are worth it Armageddon: well, It's a Lunar with more range and extra lances!
The only thing... the cost, are they worth those extra points?
So you out there, the experienced commanders, what do you think?
thanks in advance!

Personally, I rarely take anything heavier than a Cruiser for Imperials, and Grand Cruiser for Chaos. I find that the standard cruisers are some of the best value for points that you can get. However, saying this, Battlecruiser are extremely stubborn and difficult to take down. I would not max out on the heavier vessels, but one or two to hold the line may be good. Experiment a bit and see how your style of play suits them.

I usually field either a BC (mars or Armageddon) or a grand cruiser (vengeance). The extra range is something that I find very useful. I field the mars because I dislike the dictator not heavily, but to a level to even refuse to field it. I feel it is worth the same as a piece of sh*t in the face for 220 pts. A Mars is the classical artillery support unit: long range and aircraft. usually it lurks behind the main line of 3-4 lunars and shots the NC as well as providing fighter cover for the rest of the fleet. I prefer that over the dictator, that needs to be more in the front line in order to be effective. I find it to be quite vulnerable due to that. Others have other opinions here, though.
If you want a pure carrier better an exorcist; 230 points, 10 hit points, 3 shields and a fair WB fire. I have to experiment with this, but I find it extremely useful compared to the dictator and might become a main ship of the line for me.
The overlord... well, WB8 is not something to cheer very high about. At over 30 cm it becomes quite crappy actually. Nice, but you would be better in a broadside with a vengeance.
The armageddon is the other BC I usually field. Nice central leader for the main battleline cruiser squadron, at least for me. Adds quite some punch to the equation (more range and +2 lances) when directing the other ships in the assault.
Would I take a BC? Sure, but this is more a question of personal opinion than anything. It is not a need if you don't want to.
Regards,
Xavi

Hey, Luna, dont copyu my gun squadron!! :D
This is the same squadron that I use as my main force. I do not always squadron the armageddon with them, though. The group is 180 +180 +245 = 605 points. Not cheap, but still allows you plenty of points to field other stuff likje escorts one or 2 support carriers (if you want them) an admiral and a pair of light cruisers or a gothic. Yup, I still like the gothic ev en if most people seems to despise it. I suppose that I tend to roll too much 4's on my dice, scoring an average of 3 hits per broadside when NOT locked on....strangely it is the only ship where this happens. I suppose that is a faith thing. I *know* the gothic will do well while I also know that the rest of the fleet will suck. Weird but true. My gothics sometimes kill even eldar....
Regards,
Xavi
