Nice trick; one I actually hadn't heart of. How does it take to the wear and tear of gaming?

It holds up like a weathering powder or other dry pigment would: tt will stay as long as it is not touched. To fix it in place you must varnish shortly after you apply it.

In some ways this is actually a good trait. If you don't like the highlights or if they are applied too strongly, just use a Q-Tip and wipe them a bit to tone them down, or wipe more to remove them completely. It's fun to experiment to see what colors work the best.

But, to fix them in place, you must varnish them!

Yeah that's a cool technique. Lots of traction with it on the Star War Armada crowd too so it's nice to see it here as well. It's way crisp on those bikers. Awesome work.

Thank you!

I can see how this technique would pair with star ships. Anything with hard edges works well with the watercolor pencils.

Thanks Epic!

Yes, try it out. It is amazing how quickly you can get a good result with the pencils. I wouldn't use the technique in a competition, but it elevates a basic table-top standard miniature into something much more.

Use light colors for high contrast. Here is an article with pictures where someone did it on a larger model. It looks really good!

I also have some more pix on my blog. You can click the link under my signature.

Good luck with your experiment!
