Indeed, lack of colour match between the paint editions is very annoying amazing how much they've failed on that and how low their bar was for colour matching. Wazdakka red makes me unhappy Coat d arms are fine for the older colours, but for some of the new ones i've not found replacements (charadon granite )

Looking good though, and nice to see more GW minis!

Whenever I try a new GW colour that I was expecting to replace an old one, I take it home, squint at it, then in disbelief Google search it to see how wrong it is.

Hah. sounds about right. An update on the color hunt. Today the paints I ordered came in and I had a chance to test them out. Unfortunately they aren't what I need but it's not entirely a waste though.

Armypainter Soft Tone:
Not really a close match to Gryphonne Sepia. More of a lighter version of the Strong tone. Still a closer match than Seraphim Sepia.

Armypainter Strong Tone:
Perfect match to the old delvan mud.

Vallejo Game Color Dark Fleshtone:
Completely wrong color compared to dark flesh, but is dead on for Scorched Brown.

Vallejo Model Color Mahogany Brown:
Basically the same as Dark Fleshtone maybe slighty more red.

Vallejo Model Color Hull Red:
This has a more purple hue. Basically a darker version of the old GW Scab Red

Where this leaves me? I feel like I'm close to finding something. Mahogany Brown mixed with blood red got me something very close to the old Dark Flesh. I've also ordered a bottle of Vallejo Cavalry Brown which I think has much more of the red tone I'm looking for. Hopefully that will be here by the end of the week and I'll be able to go from there.

Try picking up the OOP paints you need secondhand on eBay? I've done that in a similar situation in the past. Or a W: X paint in trade forums here and elsewhere.

Glyn, I try to avoid doing that when possible because it's more of a temporary fix to the problem than a long term solution. If I can source replacements from other manufacturers that don't jump around as much as GW, I've got a more reliable means than finding pots of OOP paints.

Update on this: I got Vallejo Cavalry Brown in today and gave it a whirl. It's a touch lighter than the old GW Dark Flesh but it definitely performs like Dark Flesh so I'm happy enough to use it as a replacement to Doombull.

So I finished up a few vintage GW drop pods today. These came already assembled so please forgive any of the wonkiness or mould lines I couldn't deal with.

Now on to Blood Raven landing craft...

Hey look, I finished up a few more models This time around it's landing craft for a Blood Raven's army. These came already assembled which made it a bit hard to get them cleaned, I apologize for mould lines I couldn't get or missed.

This version is using the Vallejo Calvary Brown as a base which turned out quite nicely. I tried using drybrushing on these to see how it would work on the larger surfaces to bring up the color and then selectively pulled in white highlight rather than shade each panel like I usually do. I think it worked all right for the most part since the shading washes went on smoothly. The shots are a touch too red though, I think the white balance is off slightly. I also tried to put decals on these but they failed rather spectacularly. I'm starting to get suspect of the FW transfers quality since I get an abnormally high rate of failure with them and almost never have an issue with other brands. Next up it's back to my last 4 land raiders!
