Ok, been tweaking the tanks a bit. First of all, I decreased the turrets' height with about 20%:

Secondly, I've been playing a lot with the quad autocannon:

This way I can keep the turret as a single piece rather than cutting it up just so it can be cast. Also, this way it matches closely to many other quad weapons, rather than being two twin-linked cannons.
I assume the ammofeed of these weapons is mounted partly in the turret and another part in the hull of the tank. However, since it's a quad weapon, I can imagine it's rather limited in the amount of ammo it can carry, which is probably also one of the reasons (from a background perspective) that this model was at a certain point replaced for the single autocannon or by sacrificing its transport capabilities (like the Hydra in 40k).
A similar point arises with the battlecannon, whilst powerful I can imagine that such a weapon could also carry limited amounts of ammo, meaning that this type of turret on the Novan IVR was at a certain point discontinued as well and mounted on more specialised vehicles.
Like I said, it's the 'nostalgia sprue'!
