those look really fantastic. And the improvement of your painting skill over the years is stunning. Did you paint continuously or make some longer breaks?

Did you use blue colours to highlight the black areas? The effect is very good.

I've painted mostly continuously. There have been a few breaks of a month or so here and there and months where do paint, but don't get much time to spend on it.

I did used a bit of enchanted blue in the gray for shading. :)

Now that we're back :)

Finished up the last of the custom 30k preds today. Just one more Land Raider to go to finish out the set. I tried to go with the more realistic flames than the more cartoony modern ones. I have mixed feelins on the result. :)

Perhaps more yellow to increase the contrast?

Looks good to me - almost glows. Any brighter might unbalance the overall look. Amazing job!

Fantastic painting.
I'm with Blip, more yellow might make it cartoony and what you're trying to avoid, tricky one in that scale, I'd leave as is.

at least they got the colours in the right order on the modern ones! the RT/AT had red centres and yellow edges. I ended up copying it for mine because I was trying to be 'authentic' to the old look, but was painting with gritted teeth …

I like that shade of green, what colour is it?

I did have more yellow in there at one point, but it really didn't help. It ended up looking less flame like and more cartoony so I pulled it back. I think perhaps more flame reference would have helped here.

@apoc: yeah, if your doing flames, at least the FW style doesn't look quite as silly. The green is just catachan green over white shaded with a bit of black mixed in and highlighted with some Goblin Green. I did a few toning glazes to tip it back a bit more yellow with catachan and then a touch of pure yellow.

I finished out the last of the 30k custom sculpts today, this one as Death Guard. I'm also putting up a group shot of all of them together. Interesting note: The grayer blacks on the Iron Fist Fellblade and Pred are GW's offering while the darker and richer blacks on everything else is the Vallejo. I hope you like it.
