Are there meant to be 31 pinned posts in the Epic 6mm Painting forum, or has something gone wrong?

I think the Mods have gone through the forum history and pinned the threads that will be useful to newcomers to the board.
Whilst this is certainly an admirable (and lengthy I'd imagine!) task to have undertaken, I would like to suggest that there be a new board created as an archive of such posts.
Its a great set of resources, but I feel moving them to an archive board (Probably limited to mod posting rights only) would be a better suggestion since having so many pinned at the top is a little unweildy when it comes to browsing for current threads.
A job well done on collecting the best resources to whoever did it, but perhaps all the effort put in to it could be better displayed with a new section.
Just a thought ?

I'm the guilty party, guys!
I have been requested by a number of members to put some of the best posts forward.
I will fix it in a few days if that's OK with everyone.
Please pipe in!
I also think, much like Tuffskull, that we need an archive forum for the "best of the best."
Shabbat Shalom, Maksim-Smelchak.

No problem, I was just wondering.
I agree about keeping good posts, there is plenty of really good stuff that would be shame to lose, or be buried where new people wouldn't see it.

Wouldn't it be eaiser to have a single pinned topic in this forum with links to all the good threads?
Just a simple idea...
Cheers
Chris

Both Jimbo!
But indeed, it does seem to be the best plan...I can't stand pages upon pages of pinned topics!
Cheers
Chris

I hope that the mods dont mind, but I will move our discussion here to an open forum...
Maksim, great idea. I think that the best thing to do would be to have a central resource for common questions. I do think that pinning over an extended period gets a little messy. I like the idea of a single post with links to the relevant topics. However, after a certain amount of time (90 days) of inactivity, threads vanish. Therefore, my suggestion is:
Leave all pinned topics pinned as they are now. I will archive posts, either by converting them all to web format, or (more likely) simply saving a printer-friendly version of the threads which are stored as web pages, and make a post linking the to these boards as a menu. I will unpin topics as I archive them in this fashion and so you will all know the progress.
How does that sound?

Sounds good. Start with the 6mm board as the pinned topics completely block all the new topics appearing.
Nice to see some of them though.

CS and gang,
I don't mind the conversation being public. No worries!
I also wanted to mention that even with pinned topics, there is an option at the top of your screen called "New Posts" (on your control panel under your name) that will save you the trouble of sorting through the forums. I rarely use anything but.
If you use the "New Posts" option then pinned posts are no problem. You can also adjust the number of posts displayed on your screen to show more which also makes pinned posts less of a problem. I find them no inconvenience at all.
I really like the idea of taking certain threads and converting them to articles for all players.
The idea of a pinned "master link" thread is also a superb one. We can always edit on future threads of note.
Best regards to all and Shalom, Maksim-Smelchak.

Hi guys,
I think its important that we retain the discussions and information contained in the pinned threads, but I suspect its currently putting a dampener on people posting. Until I just went through this thread, I thought my new topic post into 6mm had not been taken!
I suspect others may not respond as they won't be searching on new posts but just browsing (as I currently do)...
(I'd be happy to offer help if there's anything I can do)

OK. This task has started, with the first five topics archived and a thread created in this part of the forum. I will get this done as quickly as I can, but it will take a while.
Also, be aware that links do not work in the archived threads. And, should threads which have been archived in this way be closed? If not, when someone posts in a thread that has been archived, the archive will be out of date.
Comments?

The archived info looks good. Clear and as useful as ever, I think this is definitely the best way to archive stuff rather than pin it in the forums. Keep it up.
(Ah balls! As I typed that I put my elbow in a splodge of black paint.)

Comments? | I think archived threads should be closed for just this reason. If a spin off thread evolves which is also useful, it can be added to the archive, but it is more likely that threads will go OT rather than produce more useful material.
