Ah the days of Rogue Trader. In the vast expanse of the universe.... anything goes / polyversal already exists??

@ Blip - agree totally, get it out there and on show and people will start playing it. Look at Dropzone commander, seems to be doing well and there are not many general wargame shows I have not seen them represented.

@ Evil n Chaos / Ben - The next small batch of models are prepped and undercoated so I hope to get some more of your wonderful productions painted and posted in the next couple of days :)

Well put, Elsmore. I am grateful for the Miniwars site - I got 4 of my mates to sign up for it and I might have found 1 or 2 people close to me to play Specialist Games so that's good. =)

Picking up on the points about 'Hawk' being everywhere, you aren't wrong.

in fact they have their own volunteer evangelists called 'Talons' which help generate buzz around their games by organizing local tournaments and run demo games. (There is one at our local club)

http://www.hawkwargames.com/pages/hawk-talons
http://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0159/4 ... n.pdf?1521

Obviously this is a great way of doing things for a small company that is growing as quickly as Hawk, and i'm sure saves them a fortune is Sales/events staffing!

A bit late for Epic in this respect (especially with no-sugar daddies around to back it) but it is funny the amount of interest we get from passers by when playing, it seems almost everyone has a bit of love for the 6mm, whether it's nostalgia or new interest i don't think it would be too hard to get a few more players. The main thing that these 'passers by' mention is the cost involved and the hassle tracking down stuff on eBay etc.

For these guys i always recommend TMG, SCP, Onslaught etc (from now on it will be 'Vanguard' obviously)

I think for me if it wasn't for the massive nostalgia factor for collecting the old models i had as a kid i wouldn't bother with GW minis at all now.
The fact that you can build an army using commercially available models, at a decent price (and with arguably better sculpting/casting quality) its a no brainier.

I see the GW stuff as the 'hook' so to speak. Its something that the vast majority will instantly recognize and associate with. Then their is the line of "you could consider playing with TMG, SCR, Onslaught available at a very reasonable price through Vanguard...."

For me I would also be backing this up with "....and just see how quickly you can paint them!" - Rhino and ten man squad in ~ 8-10 min.

Infinity has a similar line of street evangelists - War Corps, who help as the rules are a bit dense.

Aye. Spartan Games, Privateer Games, Fantasy Flight, Mantic all have similar ambassador teams that work in the wider gaming community to evangelize and promote their systems. It's a pretty proven model though of course it's a little more stacked with 6mm, I think conceptually it's sound.

Just my 2 pence on the thing about getting more people into 6mm.

I joined this forum as its 6mm based and after buying sets of epic when it first hit the shelfs back in the
day but I still just painted back then and still just paint now ;)

After buying an epic space marine box set on fleabay a few years ago it got me hooked and I found this
forum and was inspired by the conversions and other minatures available in 6mm scale.

People like Ben and onslaught have been an inspiration in bringing 6mm minatures up to date with
with what we can do with todays cad and moulding etc.

But what personally feel lets the 6mm side down regarding bringing new blood into the fold is that
you go on the websites and buy the minatures, yes that's great if you know the game, have the rules
already etc.

Just remember " for you that are old enough anyway ;D " the excitement when looking at the side of that
Box in the store seeing the painted forces on the reverse side, that awesome picture on the front
and looking at list of whats included, dice, rulers, minatures, rulebook, card scenery etc.

I feel you need a box set as it says " we are a company and this is our product and we will continue
to expand "

Boxed set, roughly the same as sm2 box set and I think the 6mm would make its mark, not only
at shows but also stores would by it in as you are not just selling minis you are now selling a brand.
Set a defined ruleset that is printed not just on the web.

Back to basics as we would say ;) slowly, slowly catch the monkey ;D

Like I said this is just my 2 pence worth.

Regards Epic

Good points - I would consider Baccus demonstrates what can be achieved in 6mm as a successful business, and Peter has taken a fair bit of inspiration from GW (in a very positive sense). Yes you can buy individual packs of figures, but can also buy brigade and army sets, and with the Polemos series you can buy your box set with two compatible starter armies, rules, painting guides, scenery.....

Given the Affray elites for example might it be worth considering a "Combined arms Company" composed of say 80 Affray Infantry, 20 Forefront Infantry, 20 Specialists, and 10 Trojans..... or combinations along those lines? Include a business card with links to Tac Command, Online rulebook, Army lists.....

Gives people an entry point army.

Feel as if I may have opened a can of worms and may be overstepping things. Clearly there is a lot of support and love for 6mm here. As has been mentioned a couple of times things are a little fragmented and everybody has their own ideas of how things are, could be done, and/or should be done. There are both challenges and opportunities presenting themselves.

This is turning out to be a very useful and productive conversation. As has been mentioned 6mm in general and epic in particular are very fragmented we have multiple versions of the rules and several other 6mm game systems out there too which all serve to dilute and disperse the players thus making 6mm sci fi hard to get into. I found this forum by accident whilst looking for images of epic models and I found upon looking around the forum how confusing all the different versions of the game and army lists by the bucket load are to casual visitors or those seeking out information for their favourite system.

We really need to set up a thread that explains every version of the epic rules plus all the updated fan version editions and add ons we have floating about on the forum with links to the appropriate sections on the forum to the version new members and visitors are interested in. This should at least inform people of why there is so much material on the forum and how to navigate it.

An army set is a very good idea and it's something i'd give serious consideration to setting up sometime.

A boxed set is also a good idea, something ben planned to do with the plastic sprue at the time but events conspired to ruin that. This could be an option with metal minis instead but will require some consideration and planning.

Remarkable in many ways. Just look at the newly started championships! It seems to be a game that escapes oblivion time after time.

I too am puzzled by the current splintering of the precious hobby seconds this community commands into separate communities and a gazillion very similar lists following some fluff of doubtful literary qualities.

And yet it works. Remarkable.

@ elsmore, I hear you sir and joined your site when first started, but again the epic info was fragmentory well at least early on it was. I also found that it drifted away from being an epic focused site when all the other games started to be added, just my view. You've done a grand job with the site so don't think i'm having a go at your efforts here.

I just thought that it would be easier to have a similar set up here were most new recruits seem to gravitate.

You have just illustrated my point, md. I had the exact same thought when I joined this forum in 2009(?) I created a site to put this information since a massive forum thread is not the most user friendly way of displaying it, yet here we are, talking about the idea like it's todays news. It turns out people like to talk about ways to organise or galvanise the community as a whole, but very few care enough to actually do anything. And if you do something it registers some vague acknowledgment, before people go back to lusting over the next model release they'll buy but never get around to painting. :P

That said, 6mm / Epic just seems to chug along happily without any grand plan to organise or raise awareness. Just a fringe product in the small war gaming market, I guess.

Yep, it's been done a number of times. There's probably a new write up on a 3rd party site or new forum thread doing that every year. the problem is there's no set central go-to epic site (I know some sites inc. taccom think it's them) for people out there who only know that it isn't GW anymore. If they do find taccom it's a mess to navigate, and they then have to post to ask to be point to www.net-armageddon.org/ or miniwars etc
